New Vegas - is it worth buying? Please help me decide.

First I wanted to apologize for my english, it isn't my native! I would really appreciate if someone could read this all and answer my questions!

I have played Fallout 3 on Xbox 360 (duh, I still play - story completed but discovering locations and exploring) and it's just awesome. Recently I have been lurking on reddits other sites and checking out New Vegas. I even watched youtube lets plays to get the look of it. And overall I feel like I would have a lot of fun with it. I mean, first what I noticed is that Fallout NV provides feature of iron sights? I am just shocked. In Fallout 3 you don't have a iron sights but some kind of weird angle aiming. The iron sights sounds really cool and I can see myself liking this feature. Aiming through iron sights into enemies = awesome. So yeah, to the point... now that the holidays are up, I have time to finish Fallout 3 and possible I could buy Fallout NV Ultimate Edition with all 6 dlcs for around 25$.

There's some questions if someone could answer. I would really appreciate it!!

If it's worth buying it if a person like me is very into Fallout 3? I can only see enhancements in NV from gameplays.

How is Fallout NV compared to Fallout 3 in terms of number of main missions, side missions etc.? Does NV have much more of it? Are they more complex? I was big fan of long side missions in Fallout 3. How about NV?

Same question but about the locations. Fallout 3 with dlcs features over 210 I think locations. Does NV fall behind or is better?

The iron sights exist on every weapon? Is this feature like instant? Does it even exist on Xbox 360? It could have been a PC mod and I didn't noticed. I don't know.

How about VATS? Any difference between 3 and NV?

Perks. Smilliar? Better fitting? Worse?

Are DLCs interesting? Does they introduce new map locations? (like The Pitt and Point Lookout) If yes how many of them do?

Does New Vegas features loot or enemies that randomly respawns after being looted or killed? In Fallout 3 they didn't and I kinda didn't liked it.

I think that's all I wanted to know.

I would appreciate the answers as I have a chance to get ultimate edition!

Cheers

~Lukas

New Vegas is very different from FO3 but in some good ways. FO3 stresses exploration, FO:NV stresses quests and storylines. If you enjoy doing quests and you enjoy having choices in how you do things, you'll like New Vegas. If you just like to wander around the wasteland aimlessly, you might be a bit disappointed. Enemies in FO3 level up with you, so you won't find a Deathclaw at level 1 unless under certain circumstances. New Vegas does not do this, so exploring on your own below ~level 10 can get you killed if you go the wrong way or don't scout ahead before walking forward.

New Vegas absolutely curbstomps FO3 in quest content, and yes they are more complex. There's an image that often floats around these forums that shows the total quest list for FO3 compared to the total quest list for New Vegas. Vegas' list is much larger. The quests themselves are also more detailed. http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=jqme7k&s=7#.VY17GUbfRRc that provides an example of one of Vegas' larger quests in regards to choices offered.

New Vegas does fall behind on locations, I believe. Not sure if there's actually less locations, but New Vegas locations are smaller in general. In FO3 you might enter a comic book company's headquarters and battle robots and men wielding miniguns. New Vegas' approach is much more realistic. Prime example? FO3, Moira Brown sends you down the street to investigate a super market that no one in town has ever thought to investigate. It's crawling with Raiders. In New Vegas, there's an abandoned convenience store down the street from a major settlement. The convenience store is barren and has little of use for you. New Vegas locations are there to be realistic rather than to be fun just for the sake of fun.

95% of the weapons have ironsights, and it's pretty instant. It exists on all versions.

VATS in FO3 gives you 85% damage reduction and 15% additional crit. VATS in New Vegas gives you 25% damage reduction and 5% additional crit. Basically, dying while in VATS is very possible in New Vegas. If you thought VATS was too strong in FO3, it's not anymore.

New Vegas has far more perks to choose from, and much better ones too. Example: New Vegas has a melee weapons perk that makes your melee attacks have a chance of knocking enemies down. FO3 doesn't have this. However, you get a perk every second level instead of every level like in FO3. Better perks, but each character can only take 25 total.

The DLCs are amazing. Make sure you play the DLCs in order. The DLCs tell a story and the story connects the events experienced in each DLC. As such, the story makes the most sense and has the most impact if you play them in order. The correct order is Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and then Lonesome Road. If you hate Dead Money? Don't worry, all of the DLC are very different from one another. Each is an entirely new experience. These are the first DLCs for any game I ever purchased where I felt the money I spent was worth it.

No, there's no loot or enemies that randomly respawn. Enemies will respawn exactly where you expect them to respawn.

Thanks for the well written answers. Didn't expected such efforts! I appreciate it.

Still one thing. How about the new maps from dlcs though? Does the dlcs adds entire new map like Point Lookout and The Pitt does in Fallout 3? Or are they just adding new locations to the Mojave?

Thanks!

Cheers.

Yes they do add new maps. Not all of them, but 4 of them do (Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Olde World Blues, and Lonesome Road). The other two DLCs are item packs that expand the equipment list for the game.

And yes, buying the Ultimate Edition is definitely worth it.

But it should be noted that Dead Money's area cannot be revisited once you leave.
