New Vegas worth buying right now?

Post » Sat May 15, 2010 1:22 am

I don't know whether or not I should buy Fallout: New Vegas. I never really got into Fallout 3 and stopped playing it a few hours after leaving the vault. However I love Oblivion and like the idea of an open world rpg with guns. I hear there isn't much of a difference, but sounds like they added the things that I felt Fallout 3 lacked to be a good game. Iron sights sound like a great addition and Vegas just sounds like a funner atmosphere. Also I have Fable 3 preordered so either game is a potential 100 hour+ consumer, so it may be best to wait til I'm done with Fable 3. That way New Vegas will drop in price, some of the glitches will be patched, and dlc will be out. What do you think?

The things Fallout New Vegas add back in are more RPG elements and better dialogue... it doesn't make it more like Oblivion, if anything it makes it less so. I am very happy with that, THRILLED really, but if you are looking for more of an action game than Fallout 3 already was, or more simple fun, then New Vegas is not for you.

Love the game, absolutely through and through. Better than Fallout 3, very few bugs for me (PS3) and so far--knock on wood--nothing to make it unplayable. I love how things seem to have higher values, there's more sense of an economy, many factions, gangs, ammo choices, crafting, the story line. Almost everything is better in every way. hardcoe mode and less perks/stat points to distribute will probably increase the replayability for me 10 fold.

The only things that are let downs for me are the SAME damn graphics. They're not bad, but they could be soooo much better compared to other games, even those released a year ago or more. Character movement animations have always been awkward in the franchise, but whatever. I was also worried that the map seems much smaller... but I'm finding that it's not such a bad thing. The fallout 3 world had a lot of void of nothing to do, this map is just a little more compact with the same amount of stuff to do. Keeps the action rolling.

All RPG games seem to be designed after the same model. I find it very hard to believe that you wouldn't find it fun. Any bugs you experience WILL be fixed. But like I said, I haven't experienced anything noteworthy.

BUY IT!

If you got bored of Fallout 3, then you'll probably be bored by this game. It's got a few new bells and whistles, but for the most part it's the same exact game. If you do plan on buying it, wait until after you've played Fable III.

People are complaining left n right about all kinds of things, mostly bugs n such, but personally Im having a blast so far, Im 25hrs into and cant put it down! I think the problem is with the pc users. I got FONV for 360 and I havent had any problems at all.

Its not just PC users, im playing on my 360 slim 250hd with the game installed and the glitches are found all over and I've had multiple hard crashes while in the strip or freeside and a couple times when buying from a traveling merchant. I'm 40 hours in btw. Screen tearing, pop ins, and little things like this don't bother me because its an open world game but corrupt saves, hard crashes, inventory dissapearing forcing you to open a past save, etc are not acceptable. Now, to the original poster, if you didn't like Fallout 3 this game is not for you, as many top reviewers have stated this is like a very large expansion to Fallout 3. I like it but I really wish it would get fixed. You might want to pass, but if you do decide to buy it, wait till a patch that actually fixes problems comes out because the first patch seemed to make my experience worse.

Not at all. My rig is running New Vegas perfectly and the only bugs I've encountered have been ones that were already present in Fallout 3.

And if the forums here are anything to go by, it seems like the console users are having -more- problems, not less.

Reviewers are united in one thing which is that the PC version is in a better technical shape than the console versions.

I'd say buy now. The number of Glitches I've seen are very few, and minor. 34 hours played and only one Crash to Desktop. The most common glitch I see is the odd critter stuck inside a hill, and poor critter AI.

(I'm not saying you definately wont have problems, but considering I expected a Termite mound, I've been plesantly suprised).

It's going to be a love/hate thing. If you loved Fallout 3 then obviously get Fallout NV. If you hated F3 or were so-so about it, rent it first to see how you like it. If you like it, buy a copy and you still have your save file to continue. If you didn't like it, at least you didn't waste $60. Yes, PC version is less glitchy then the console version but for me at least i can live with it. I haven't come across any major glitches, probably cuz i installed the game into my 360 hard drive which probably makes everything smoother.

If your thinking of getting it for the PC though, flip a coin and make a decision lol.

PS: The only glitches i've come across so far are bugs dropped into the floor around mountains (free kill lol) and a little frame drop issues every now and then for like 2 or 3 seconds. People talking about crashing every hour and crap, take the porm off your 360/PS3/PC hard drive :P

not true at all...im an avid Fallout fan...played FO 1 & 2 & 3 & NV...considering buying tactics....however,i must say i dont like FO 3.....after buying the game i played it for about 24 hours......just didnt feel like fallout.after that i've made attempts to play and force myself to play but i cant play FO 3 for no more than 15min before getting bored and stopping.....FO NV..however...is GREAT .......minus the bugs...overall its a GREAT game(reminds me of fallout 2)...once they release the patches for the game im sure my gaming experience/love for the game will increase 100%

.FO NV looks like FO 3...but it FEELS and PLAYS like fallout.....which FO 3 failed to do.

I think that if you can survive the boredom of the first ten hours of the game and make it it to new vegas where the actual plot begins, you will enjoy the game. Up until then its pretty ho-hum.

All the Fable games I've played seem like RPG's on training wheels.

New Vegas is certainly not the same as Fallout 3. It is far better.

I wasn't that impressed with Fallout 3 as a TES fan, but NV in my opinion is a huge improvement. I couldn't get involved in my Fallout 3 character and played through the main quest and stopped, but in NV I already have 20+ hours into my first char and have just started my second. But one of the things I dislike about NV is the invisible walls <_< . As for bugs/glitches, ya NV has them, but what game doesn't? I haven't encountered any that were game-breaking though.

You might want to hold off then for the game of the year edition that will be $60 but has $30-50 worth of DLC on the side

I never played the first two Fallout games, but I did play F3. I found it kinda sorta meh at first. Played for about 5 hours and went back to TF2. A couple of months ago I gave it a second chance and while I progressed a bit further this time (about eight hours) I again quit because the game didn't pull me in. I bought F:NV on a whim and I am having a blast so far. This game has a lot more soul than its predecessor. The engine still svcks, the gunplay is still quirky but the story is so much better. If story is something you found lacking in F3 you will probably like NV a lot better. If it was the gameplay, NV doesn't change an awful lot.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
