New Vegas3 on Uplay

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 12:10 pm

Do the New Vegas and/or Fallout 3 versions on Uplay require Steam? I would gladly replace my Steam copies with those since they're on sale. It would be nice not to have to worry about offline mode not working.

EDIT: Maybe this would have been better in the hardware/software issues, even though my only issue is with the DRM client.

What versions? Uplay is the online store for Ubisoft, they don't carry anything but their own titles. I just had a look there and they don't have any of the Fallout games.

Ubisoft sells other publishers titles and has them on Uplay. If you buy an EA title on Uplay, you need to run Origin inside of Uplay, similar to buying an Ubisoft title on Steam. You would have to run Uplay inside of Steam. Fallout 3 required GFWL to run inside of Steam. I'm assuming that has been patched out, as many GFWL titles have patched that DRM out.

This is the Canadian shop.

What I'm hoping for, is that I wont require Steamworks to run inside of Uplay. That crud (Steamworks) was added in mind when they made NV; I'm hoping it's been removed and won't be required for New Vegas; that Uplay's DRM will be all that's in and required in that version. I'm adding FO3 to that mix, because I'm not sure what all they've done to it since MS announced they were shutting down GFWL.

Or they can just put both of them on GOG, and make me a happy camper because I wouldn't have to worry about this DRM crud ever again for these titles.

I believe all versions of the game needs steam to be running and linked to it.

There is a problem running in offline mode? I haven't had this issue I guess.

For me, Steam keeps losing my login info. It used to be once a month. Then it was every 2 weeks. I don't have internet at home because I live in the sticks and there isn't affordable, reliable high speed there so if I want to play my games at home, I've got to lug my computer into town. Supposedly the 2 week problem has been fixed, but I'll see if it still happens. I would rather just not deal with Steam until it is fixed for good, like what Uplays' and Origins' is.

It's a bug that sometimes offline mode won't activate like it's suppose to and Valve can't figure out how to fix it iirc.

I broke down and got it.

Yep, it wants to run Steam inside of Uplay. Atleast I've got an extra NV Steam code to give to someone, and I'm only down $5.65.

That svcks. I was hoping for a Steam-free copy.

EDIT: They (Uplay) should state that it requires Steam to play.

I have this issue and I think it is more with my ISP (Usb Internet stick). The connection is not always stable so quite often the account settings stored on the computer gets corrupted.

Still I like steam more than Origin or Uplay, and I do not like steam that much.

All I care is: Can I play the game I bought, anytime I want?

I can with Origin and Uplay. I haven't been able to so far with Steam.

Obviously, DRM-free is superior in this regards.

unfortunately drm is the way things are going, for better or worse.

It's a corporate policy vs one based on facts (pirating doesn't mean lost sales, since it is hard to figure out how many actually would have bought the item to begin with)

Aside from a few isolated titles, there hasn't been any DRM-free releases in decades. Since the very early days of computers in fact. The focus has just shifted from disc-based DRM to internet based. You're kidding yourself if you think that Uplay doesn't come with some sort of DRM, it's not all that different than Steam. Ubisoft were the ones who started the always online system, I believe with Assassins Creed IIRC. They're no better or worse than any other game company these days. As far as online DRM systems are concerned Steam is probably the best, which is why other companies are copying their model.

Since the OP has answered their question, any further discussion of Steam or DRM needs to be in this thread
