New Weapon: Flails

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 1:27 am

For those of you who don't know what a flail is:

Flails typically look like this:
http://lacsknights.pbworks.com/f/Maces__Flails_Flail_2605_122.jpg

Here's a flashier model:
http://www.licataknives.com/flail2nd.jpg

and then there's always this:
http://www.brutalrpg.com/images/Art_Gallery/Imperial%20Flail.jpg

I guess i can see how the physics of a flail might be hard to do, but it isn't impossible, and this is always a weapon i wanted in TES

Good idea for a mod, but I dont see it happening. If anything, just one instead of two or three spiked flail.

Yes but maybe just maybe we can complain enough to get them in this one, or even just Elder Scroll VI.

Nobody seems to mention anything about flails on these forums, and they are a pretty popular D&D weapon. it perplexes me.

I'd love to see'em, but I can't get past this idea:

Flails + Havok physics = hilarity ensues

Would they be "no friendly fire," or would any Havok-induced bouncing of the business end cause (realistic) damage to you? In the latter case, of course, using one could well be almost suicidal...

Just dunno.

I think it would be fine if it did very little damage to you if it bounced back. Like if it bounces back off a shield it hits you pretty slow in the body it should do very little damage, but if someone homeruns your flail into your head with a 2h hammer then yeah... it should hurt pretty bad.

It'd be pretty cool to homerun enemy's flails into their heads come to think about it.

I think realistically most flail users would have a shield to help protect against bounceback. (dual-wielding flails would be pretty cool though)

I love flails, and I would definitely use one if they were included in the game.

I don't think they will be in the game though, and I'm fine with that too.

Yeah, same here, I just think that after a while, your character would smack himself in the face. OR a companion.
And thats goofy to me. Cause think about it.
Wouldnt you eventually accidentally hit yourself with that?

But yeah. Im all for it then.

Hmm interesting, I think the dynamics would be hard to impliment within the game when used in combat, especially with the 3 spikes to manage dymanically when in movement. Although could still be a possibility.

Voted no. I want them, but getting rope physics to work and having AI being aware of it seems like a stretch. Maces will have to do, and spend that money elsewhere.

the question was "do you WANT flails to be in skyrim", not "do you think there will be flails in skyrim?".

Epic Flail!

I see what you did there... :hubbahubba:

If you http://www.spike.com/full-episodes/scsc5s/deadliest-warrior-pirate-vs-knight-season-1-ep-104 Skip ahead to 6:00 - 9:00 where it talks about and shows how brutal the Flail (Morningstar) can be.

Anyways I would love for chain weapons to be in The Elder Scrolls. Flails of any kind or really any weapon made of one or more heavy object attached to a chain and a handle. Maybe not this game (Skyrim, although it would fit best I think in the brutal land of Skyrim) but in the future games.

Chain Weapons are one of my top all time favorite weapon types. There's not much like them either and they are so brutal. I mean wielding a bludgeoning Mace weapon is one thing but a Flail just looks so badass. I understand it wouldn't be as simple as Swords, Axes, or Maces are to put in a game because the motion of the object attached to the chain but come on it wouldn't be that hard to figure out and do for the talented bunch at Bethesda.

Also if they ever did anything with the Akavir races and continent I would love to see them introduce some weapons like the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor_hammer which is a Chinese version of a flail. But more like a badass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolas weapon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9iIKn1Bl6c

A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kusarigama which is the Japanese sickle weapon with a chain and iron weight attached. Also a Nunchuck or Nunchaku would be cool. The traditional Okinawan weapon consisting of two sticks connected at their ends with a short chain or rope.

I also hope they make a sword with the looks of the http://www.a2armory.com/images/lotr/uruk-hai.jpg. It's my favorite look for a sword all time. Idk why but it just looks so cool to me. It's got that http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=P8i&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=machete&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1024&bih=574 to it I guess. A large cleaver-like cutting tool or weapon.
