New Weapon Ideas

Post » Mon Sep 14, 2009 5:22 am

Brink has put down a decent foundation for weapons, but personally would like to see many more attachments.

Brink lies in a semi awkward place between reality, the future, and fiction. Weapon wise they seemed to have gone with more "realistic" styles...but the weapons don't do realistic damage. I would like to see more inventive, and high-tech weaponry personally.

What are other's thoughts?

Not too high-tech, then were crossing into the sci-fi boundary, Brink is a near future game, where experimental today technologies work.

I think the weapon style is fine. They seem to suit the environment.

I would like a double barrel shotgun as a light weight gun.

New Attachments

Top/Sight Attachments:
-Thermal Scope: Allows distorted vision through walls, reduces weapon accuracy

Front/Barrel Attachments:
-Extended Barrel: Increases accuracy and stability, reduces weapon equip speed

Bottom/Grip Attachments:
-Laser Sight: Creates a visible laser beam to the target when aiming (using ironsights/sights), slightly reduces weapon equip speed

Magazine Attachments:
-Hollow Point Rounds: Increases damage against unarmored targets, reduces damage further against armored targets and turrets

New Weapons

Heavy Weapons: RPG-7, aka "Thor"
-Fires explosive projectiles in a straight line
-Projectiles detonate on impact, dealing mild AoE damage and knocking targets down, similar damage and radius to grenades fired from grenade launchers
-One round chambered at a time, three rounds spare
-Slow reload speed, high accuracy, long range
-Cannot equip any attachments

Medium Weapons: Double-Barrelled Shotgun, aka "Wolf"
-Chambers two rounds at a time, 18 rounds spare
-Extremely high fire rate - can fire off two rounds almost simultaneously
-High damage, two rounds together do slightly more damage than the mossington's shells
-Slow reload speed, Short Range, Low Accuracy
-Can equip a silencer, speed sling, and sights, cannot equip any magazine attachments

Light Weapons: FN P-90 Submachinegun, aka "Toprail"
-Extreme high stability and accuracy, equivalent to the Bulpdaun
-Slightly lower damage than the bulpdaun, similar to the Kross
-50 Rounds per magazine, 150 rounds spare
-Slow reload speed, medium range
-Can equip all sight/scope attachments, speed sling/laser sight, all barrel attachments, cannot equip extended magazines or drum mags.

Sidearms: CZ-Skorpion Machine Pistol, aka "Stinger"
-Low stability and accuracy, high fire rate
-Similar damage to the belgo
-30 rounds magazine, 60 rounds spare
-High reload speed, high equip speed, short range
-Can equip all sight/scope attachments, speed sling/laser sight, and extended magazine or ammo attachments. Cannot equip drum mags or barrel attachments.

A sawed off shotgun or little lever action shotgun for light bodies. Nothing TOO powerful though.

I'd really like to see more body-type specific weapons. I was kind of expecting it when I found out about the Gotlung. But then the lightweight has nothing. Any extra weapons in future dlc would be great as they're constantly overlooked by other games that only sell maps. That doesn't add a lot for me, not on their own. And please make some weight specific options. More ARs for medium, lightweight definitely needs more weapons and some light ARs for lightweight (G36C)?

I think I've seen this post in other threads. I think the shotgun only thread.
I agree whole-heartedly.

As for the body specific weapons, I think they did an alright job with that.

I like the different attachments. Laser sight is nice, it would be better to fire from the hip and also the equip speed would decrease. I will also bring the idea of dual wielding pistols. I think light body types would benefit greatly from it and would be awesome to see them wall-run while shooting.
I think it would need some work, but maybe a flamethrower? I try to not think about the other games and their weapon attachments since the gameplay of Brink is very different and trying hard not to fall into the normal "FPS" genre.

Class-specific weapons would be nice - just as their grenades.
Medic: Dart Gun
Operative: Short-circuit command post/turret
Soldier: M.I.R.V. grenade?
Engineer: Taser?

Wouldn't that defeat the sole purpose of EMP nade?

EDIT: Sticky micro-cameras would be a great addition for operative.

i'd be fully content with the guns they have if they would fix the attachements like the non working grips and muzzle breaks^^
but for new weapons some completely new stuff would be nice, like the before mentioned double barreled shotgun, or a rocket launcher. though that thing probably is tough as hell to balance.

Heavy Weapons: RPG-7, aka "Thor"

I vote "kind of" - give it a blast radius like the EZNade (smaller than Lobster), but higher damage. make it feel like an anti-armour weapon, which would also make it pretty &#&$ in Brink.
Medium Weapons: Double-Barrelled Shotgun, aka "Wolf"

So... basically you want the Hjammerdeim, but for a medium body, with very few drawbacks that aren't already in that weapon. No thanks.
Light Weapons: FN P-90 Submachinegun, aka "Toprail"

Basically a better version of the Galactic (highest mag capacity SMG) which is also comparable in accuracy and spread with some of the best SMGs we already have. No thanks.
Sidearms: CZ-Skorpion Machine Pistol, aka "Stinger"

So pretty much the existing MPs, but with larger clip size and no additional drawback to balance it. No thanks.

You might want to rethink these ideas and make them balanced. I wouldn't object to some form of RPG-type weapon if it's implemented well. It would have to be a very small area effect, and reasonably high damage (maybe about molotov-level, or buffed Soldier frag), so it's filling a different niche than the existing explosive-based weapons. Problem is that even like this, it wouldn't see much use - it would be balanced, but the lack of power would put people off.

I would like to see a dual-wield pistol option for the light type. No need for a secondary weapon, (except for the melee attack) perhaps just being able to carry more magazines.

Yes! Someone agrees!

Also, I think I saw somewhere a post suggesting light body types getting a sword. I don't know how I feel about that. Any thoughts?
