Newbie to the Game!Help me please!

Post » Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:07 am

Okay so i went to the store and bought this awesome game and all it's DLC's Dragonborn etc.. but as a total newbie i'm extremely lost in some points:

I don't know if it's the game or it's me but after 20hours of gameplay i'm still level 11, in many forums i listen some rambows saing that they can level up to 50 in 3-4 days of gameplay (@.@). And due to my low level, when i start doing a quest or a main quest, it's extremely hard for me, it's like..they sent me at level 6 to kill a big ass leader of the vampires, but when i just entered in his cave the first random vampire witch killed me in 4secs...and vampirized me )x,x(.

So...

How should i play the game or i mean... in what should i progress firstly?

And 2nd.point: Due to unlocked DLC, at level 11 they already sent me to kill Miraak, wich is the most powerful boss in the game @.@ i've read that even if youre level 70 miraak it's a pain ass to kill...i don't know what have i done wrong to get him at level 11..wtf with 130base armor xD

The game is awesome but at the same time, it's extremely hard to understand...how can i progress or what and where should i go to level up normally and play without being killed every 15minutes.?

Thank you in advance!

First off. Take your time. Don't overwhelm yourself. Do things little by little. Move from one area to another.

Things you need to know

567 is the armour cap. No need to go higher. so just pick what you think looks the best.
Always save on a new slot. Never save over another save as it can corrupt it.
Use this site for all the things you need to know. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skyrim It obviously contains spoilers to everything in the game.
The game has radiant quests. E.g. Find *item* in *location*, kill *enemy* in *location* and stuff like that.

If you find the game too hard then lower the difficulty.
Novice 2x damage dealt 0.5 damage taken.
Adept 1x dealt 1x taken.
Master 0.5 dealt 2x taken.

I cant think what the other difficultys damages are.
Difficutly does not change AI. It just changes the damage dealt and taken.

Have fun.

Level 11 after 20 hours in the game? Sounds like one of my typical Skyrim characters.

First, don't listen to these internet Rambos going on about how they can level up their characters to 50 or 80 or beyond after only a few hours of gameplay. They're probably fast traveling everywhere, clicking through dialog without reading it, and exploiting every known glitch to skill grind and power game. In that process they're missing a lot of what the game has to offer. It's a single player game, so the only one you're competing with is yourself. Play it how you want to play it.

Just because you've gotten the quest to kill Miraak doesn't mean you have to drop everything and go kill him immediately. You only got that quest because you progressed to a certain point along the main quest line. You're free to spend the next couple of hundred game hours, if you choose, exploring and doing other quests and improving your skills until you feel like you're ready to take him on. He'll still be there waiting for you.

I got that quest on my current character when her level was still in the teens; she's Level 56 now, after 233 hours in the game, and hasn't visited Solstheim yet. She keeps meaning to go if for no other reason than to stop the constant Cultist attacks, but something always comes up to distract her.

Take your time, wander around the world, talk to NPCs everywhere you go to pick up quests, and enjoy the ride.

Thank you a lot guys, but i think i have messed too much also with those DLC's i think i will disable them and start a new game, because from now on every time when i try to kill a dragon, our funny troller miraak will steal every soul p.p and i cannot understand anymore if i go do something or kill something, i will be ripped off, because of the difference of levels x.x i will complete as many sub quest (named as miscelaneus quest..or idk) possible and then continue with main quests.

Just take your time and role play a specific character type. Also, don't be afraid to adjust the difficulty until you get the hang of it. Leveling does start happening very quickly once you're more familiar with somethings, and you start taking advantage of them later on. That's not meant as a challenge, and it's not a bad thing. I use a mod that significantly slows leveling now, and I'm still hitting level 50 after about 30 hours of gameplay. On my first play through, I was barely level 15 after 30 hours, and that was without mods.

Don't rush it, experience it. Don't feel forced to complete quests or objectives that your character isn't ready for. Just because they tell you to go do something RIGHT NOW doesn't mean you have to or even should. Get to know Skyrim first.

Instead of restarting just save before dealing the killing blow to a dragon. If Miraak steals the soul then reload the save and kill the dragon. Repeat until you get the Dragon soul. I don't do this because it ruins the fun for me. I actually like it when he steals the Dragon soul.

I don't see the point in disabling the DLCs except for Dawnguard. With Dawnguard, places will be attacked by vampires when you reach level 8, so only install this DLC if you are able to protect NPCs from vampires, vampire thralls and death hounds.

I wouldn't disable all DLC's, just be careful what quests you do...just because a quest is active doesn't mean you have to do it. I recommend staying away from Solstheim until a higher level and understanding of the game as the enemies and quests on the island can be a bit tough.

What type of character do you play? Focus on a few skills at first otherwise you'll spread your perk points too thin too early.

I havent any clue about character buildings until i read a lot of comments and guides. But i suppose i am kind of a physic warrior, i mean i focused my perk points into one handed weapons damage, increase bow damage, and block effectiveness increase. o,o and a lot of hp and stamina, magicka is still 100, what i should master?

WRT those dragon souls,

Once you defeat Miraak you'll get all the souls he stole from you back.

Again, that really depends on how you want to play the game. I have the most fun with mage characters myself, so most of my level-up points and perk points go into magicka and magic skills.

Step 1:

Find sword.

Step 2:

Hit things with sword.

Step 3:

???

Step 4:

Profit.

(Skyrim for me is a LOT easier than Morrowind.)

My advice, is to stock on magic resistance. While elemental (fire, frost & shock) resistance is easier to bring to an adequate level, it will reduce this kind of incoming damage and nothing more. Vampiric Drain (what killed you) doesn't belong to an element and if you reach level 70+, certain dragon shouts won't be elemental either.

The most important thing, as has been said, is to just take your time and enjoy it - if you like the game there are literally hundreds of hours of enjoyment ahead.

Hehe, I still remember the day I met the boss of Soljund's Sinkhole. Kiting around, avoiding the flames, using unrelenting force to get a chance at hitting it and unless I was seeing things that day, the damn thing would regenerate :P

I am still stuck on 11 hours, level 20. I have 20 hours in and I am level 4. WOW! Quite impressive. I can see now I will "finish" Skyrim in 2100.

You could gain a few levels just letting a wolf chew on you while you spam healing abilities, blocking all the attacks while your magicka regenerates. Don't think of leveling in an Elder Scrolls game on the same lines as leveling up in a more traditional RPG. You level up when your skills level up enough. So level up them skills. Don't go overboard though, make sure you are keeping your gear up to par because if you level from level 4 to level 20 in one leap you're going to run into enemies that will chew you up and spit you out because their equipment will be so much better than yours.

If you're using a one hand sword then stamina isn't something you need to worry much about nor magic (don't waste upgrades on that unless you want to use spells), put most of the points in health and perk up damage as well as Fighting Stance and Savage Strike...the other weapon specific perks for one hand are pretty much wasted perk points. I've never played a Sword-n-Board so I can't comment about blocking but obviously if you like shields then put some perk points in Block. You might want to consider joining the Companions, the quests aren't too tough early on and a few quests in you will have Farkas for an immortal follower until you complete the quest that you're assigned to (I run with immortal Farkas for many levels on some characters). Eventually if you complete the quest line for them then you will be able to have the members follow you and give you free skill training....the nice thing is that they're all Expert and Master trainers.

If you like bows then a good early bow is the Forsworn bow as it does Dwarven level damage and can be better upgraded with the Steel Smithing perk. This is the type of thing that you pickup on after playing awhile. Also you may want to stop by Alvor in Riverwood for some free Smithing lessons, it's something to help you get the basics in the beginning. There's so many tricks and things in Skyrim that I could write a book but it's better to really feel her out for yourself.
