Next Beta: RP a family groupguild?

Post » Sun Mar 09, 2014 8:21 pm

For the next beta, I am planning on forming a family group/guild to test. I am unsure of the race or alliance, but if many are interested, we can decide on them via a poll or something. I am open to all races.
Things that we will need:

A patriarch/matriarch: in charge of the group, adds/removes people from group, is the deciding factor in debates that are split, makes sure that all members are on the same page, and more...

A surname that everyone in the group shares. Can be decided on by popular demand.

Maybe a certain hair color, hair adornment, or skin color. Can be decided on by popular demand. Maybe we can have two choices for everyone to choose from--one set from mother's side, another for father's side?

Various classes? Or all the same class? Maybe all wear native armor? Have each member specialize in one crafting skill?

Decide on meeting place for group, for example the starting location after Cold Harbor? Decide on an approximate time (give enough time for cc). Can add members later, if they are late? Where? In a certain city?

We should all try to travel together and quest together. However, while in cities, we can be on our own and craft on our own, yet stay in group mode?

Should we have various types of members, ie, evil, helpful, and so forth?

I think the pace of the group should be relatively lax. We should have time to quest, but also some downtime to craft and take breaks. Maybe we should have a certain time where we play our family group, and then other times for our alts?

Let me know if there are questions, feedback, interest, etc.
If this get interest, maybe we can use the same family at launch?

I find this idea interesting and I'm willing to give it a try if you don't mind that I am not a native English speaker.

My best friend and I sometimes make characters that are brother and sister. It is fun.

No problem! Besides, I find your English amazing! ^.^ I have never tried this before, but it seems like it could be fun.

Amazing...

I was just getting some ideas on the screen in an OP for a Group Collective among our own BSF members. I think it is a good thing for the forum as we are starving for more discussion and this could be a good avenue to venture in lieu of the hack and slash that results from an ever increasing tempo of redundancy.

I'd imagine that some TES fans that are not familiar with all of the grouping and chat and what have you, can come together with like minded familiar players that they have an existing knowledge of and have already shared playstyles and even added as friends within this forum.

Some of which, if not most, would not otherwise get together or venture into more of the grouping dungeons and simple skirmishes. I know several members actually joined the forums to submit their first thread which inquired about finding people to play with.

We can list interests, characters, skills and levels, as well as playstyle preferences... like RP interests and progression speed.

Yeah, I'm glad I got some responses.

Does anyone have ideas for which race? After that, we can decide on a surname and the roles. I keep hearing that Dunmer is the best for grouping as a family/House, but any will be fine. Don't be shy to submit a race. Otherwise, I might have to use a randomizer.

Anyone interested in the patriarch/matriarch role? Should we have someone that has played through many betas, or knows the ins and outs of making a guild/group. I only have minor experience in this. But, if no one wants this, I dont't mind being the matriarch. And, should we have the leader have an older appearance?

Also, let me know which roles you would be interested in, like your class, crafting skill, and position in the family. If you have an idea for appearance, let me know. Finally, should we make this into a guild, or just a group. Either way, I am fine. I don't want this group to have so much burden on the players.

Do you have suggestions for a voice chat? I only know of team speak and Skype, but only have minor experience with them. And, I'm sure not everyone wants to voice chat or are shy. So, how should we handle that? I dont mind if members just want to type. And, did you mean that you are interested in using IC (in character) while in voice chat, or that you don't mind others using voice chat? I've never done IC before, so I'm not sure how to do it, but I don't mind others using it.

I have Skype and Ventrilo downloaded but have never used them. In fact, I couldn't tell you what the front page of their UI looked like. :D   I'm more or less just throwing stuff into the air and seeing what hits the ground. I'm fine with whatever is popular among our members. I'm sure I'll have questions no matter what is used. That is of the utmost certainty, I assure you.

I'd dare guess that members who group will want some sort of group VOIP chat. I suppose it depends on how many of us it turns out to be and how many are going to be in a group. I mean, we aren't going to roam about as a 30 member Mongol Horde. Although, that would be pretty cool.

I haven't done IC VOIP either. I would like to try it though, if others wanted to group like that. How hard can it be, right? While IC, you are typing out everything that they would say. The only difference is you're speaking the words. I'm talking for them from time to time, anyway. I know... I should be committed.

In the end, my dear... I just want to play with you fine folk. I will fall in pretty much anywhere.

I have a character concept for a male Altmer Battlemage Sorcerer Tank, skilled in 2H, Heavy Armor.

I assume we will all start new characters, yse? Since we will have a common last name for the family? Does that mean we need to choose the same race or just the same alliance and share the last name?

I assume the focus is just on PvE, correct?

I've never done this before outside of Assassin's Creed Multiplayer. It will be a very exciting and educational experience.

EDIT : because I'm stupid at 3 AM...

I'm new to this, too. This will be my first mmo.

I'm sure there will be those that want voice chat, but I'm sure some won't or are new to it. ^.^ I am unsure how many will actually want to join us, but if we get a lot of interest over time, then we could be a horde--have servants, slaves, in-laws, cousins, etc. I was thinking that we would start new characters and meet up in the starting city at an approximate time. Maybe have alts ready in case we are not all ready to meet at the time. It is also possible that we could have a mixed family, like half-Altmer and half-Breton or something, therefore we can cater to two races, but be under one surname and alliance. Or, someone interested in a mixed race could be an in-law or adopted. But, I'd like to have more thoughts on that aspect before we decide.

I do realize that some races do not have surname, so perhaps we might not have one or should we have something like "of Summerset" or a location. That would probably be more like a clan, rather than a family?

At the moment, I think we should focus on pve. But, overtime, I'm sure we will get around to PvP. I also had the idea of having only a few members do certain quests at a time. Some characters might not agree with doing a certain quest, so they can stay behind. And, from an rpg perspective, I don't think an entire family should go into a dungeon together--what if they all die...

Other things to think of: should we have a family tattoo or hair adornment? Should I attempt to make an official guild, or just leave it as a group. I am fine with only having a few people, but I am fine with anyone that wants to join.

I have this guy's general profile. Just for an inspiration idea. I am open to all change and suggestion.

  • Race - Altmer
  • Surname - Aelsonor
  • Character - Nelron Aelsonor

?A well aged and battle scarred mer that is starting to get somewhat senile and is rather eccentric. He's kind of like an Uncle Fester or a Grandpa Munster. I'd guess is a general representation of character and rank among the family. Not the leader... at least anymore.

However, he is mental and thinks he's a Markynaz (Dremora Lord) from time to time and always during battle.

I'm good with a guild, if you like. You're the little miss of the lot. I'm just the old fart in the corner.

EDIT : Oh... as far as a craft. I'm good for either Blacksmith or Enchanter. Even both if need be.

Interesting! I'm fine with rping an Altmer family. What does everyone else think? Where does the Aelsonor come from? Is it made up or an Altmer city? Would the AD be the best alliance, then?

Maybe once we fully decide on things, I will start a guild on Tamriel Rebuilt and make a banner.

Oh... how exciting. However, with the beta we will be limited to the AD. These characters won't be able to be carried over at launch. I'm not interested in PvP, at the moment. I doubt I'd get him to level 10 before Sunday. I just want to get familiar with how grouping works and have fun creating a story with you all.

I'm fine with any race and alliance, really. That name was from one of the generators. That surname seemed a little easy off the tongue and I grabbed a first name a few pages over form Aelsonor that sounded good.

Again... all just brainstorming.

If willing, out of a sheer random option should this actually evolve into something substantial after launch. I am not opposed to being a Vampire Clan.

Yeah, my main intent was to learn about grouping. And, we can always choose a different race at launch, if needed. I plan for this group to be a second alt, not a main, since I'm sure we can't all be on at the same times or as long as others.

I am excited for feedback from everybody interested. When the beta forums open, I will repost this idea. I really want this to be a group decided on by the people, rather than just my ideas (and I have a million+). If there are those that use Skype, I can make a group and we can chat about ideas tomorrow or this week (preferably no voice calls, though). My Skype name is mistryssnite ...(what a surprise....).

The beta forums aren't as popular as they have been. Since the removal of the General Discussion. Of course players still use it but the only actual General Discussion is in your Daedra group. I'm in Namira's Brood. Nonetheless, If we are in different testing groups, we can each post a flier for the family in our Beta Group's discussion forum.

I'm just looking at this for what it is. A chance to play with some folks over the weekend and familiarize myself with grouping. Launch is another puppy. This is just a temp character I threw together that was inspired by a character I made in Skyrim. He is for this test only, as they are all going to be wiped before launch.

I have a 5 day Early Access, if that plays into anything. I hope to see some more members interested in being vocal. :wavey:

Ha! :D I truly wished that was the case, indeed.

Please submit any input and join us for what will most likely be the last Beta before launch. It should be a lot of fun, no matter the race or alliance the collective chooses.

I'm just going with whatever you guys decide.

An Altmer is fine to me, since it is my favourite race and all xD

Since my main character is already a nice Altmer, I think maybe my character could be a bratty, proud and arrogant Altmer that thinks that the Queen is too young to rule, but at the same time is too comfortable with her life to do something about it (so she is not joining the Veiled Heritance).

That is quite fitting for an Altmer, for sure. I cannot wait to hear more about her. I get just as excited about the character creation as I do the actual gameplay. Especially, when hearing about other players.

Any ideas for her class, skill and combat interests? I mean, if all else is lost, we still have the family. So far there are three for a trinity and a fourth party interested.

I really don't know. I usually prefer the role of damage dealer, I'm thinking of maybe a DK with destruction staff since my main Altmer is a sorcerer already.
