Next Elder Scrolls will be on new system

Well, Oblivion already pushes the current consoles to their limits, so it would make sense to wait to improve game mechanics further.

No, it does not. Fallout 3 is three years ahead of Oblivion in terms of graphical superiority, yet it manages to run on those consoles just fine. In fact, it runs on those consoles and on PC better than Oblivion does, with higher default graphics and a higher threshold to which graphics can be raised. As has been stated previously, optimization matters just as much as hardware. And both Oblivion and Fallout 3 have immense room for optimization.

I believe they are working on ES V at the moment, so therefore I highly doubt they're putting it on a new system.
Either they are working on a new IP and making ES V later, or working on ES V now. Because they are working on something, and there's no way they're making Fallout 4 at the moment.

There probably won't be another console for a few years. I don't see Bethesda waiting that much longer. In fact, I'm guessing we'll start to hear about TES come Spring.

This is why it would be foolish to wait for next gen consoles. Oblivion has hardly tapped the potential of the Xbox and PS3, and yet it still lags at points, that means poor optimization.

Judging that a new console will most likely not be coming out any time soon, (I haven't even heard a whisper about the Xbox Theta, PS4, or Nintendo Virtual Reality Dome) TES V will most likely be on current consoles and the PC. Yes Bethesda is openly denying their work on TESV, but they've always done that with TES games until they are ready to actually show something for it. I had heard talk of the Xbox 360 before I heard a whisper of TES IV, and even if a new console generation were to come out, the developers may not instantly jump right in. For example, after the PS3 was released many games were still being made for the PS2 and those games were better received than those on the new generation because they were optimized. God of War II comes to mind.

In an ideal situation the game would come out first on pc then later on the Next gen consoles Ps4, Xbox something? To account for the current consoles rather less than awesome hardware.

This is what should happen, but almost never does...

However, if they can get the cryengine optimized enough for 5 year old tech, then what could they do if they actually TRIED optimizing PC games? Say with one of the new ATI 5800 series graphics card? The results would be so ultra realistic it boggles my mind.

Here is how I see it: I in no position to demand a game from these people. While I can say I won't buy it if x doesn't happen, it most likely won't matter.

Just wait.

Okay, forget the consoles. I just don't want TES5 to be as shallow as Oblivion. It's utterly mind-boggling why they dropped the ball after all the great work they put into Daggerfall & Morrowind.

I completely agree. I just WISH they would make another gem like those games again!

It'll be released December 20, 2012, so you'll only be able to enjoy TESv for one day before the end of the world!!! :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh:

Seriously though, I think that it'll be released sooner rather than latter. The current generation of game systems seem to be hanging in there for the time being and the only thing I've heard about the next generation of game consoles was a rumour of a rumour of a whisper of a rumour on the web pertaining to X-Box 3 (which I won't be getting cause of how much MS's customer service svcks :swear: :flame: :stare: ).

Last I heard Microsoft (Sony too) are not making a new console for a bit. But apparently, the latest news confirms your suspicions.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19960/Rumor-New-Xbox-Console-in-2010-We-Tell-You-the-Truth/

"1UP reported on Monday that Microsoft plans to release a new Xbox console as early as next year, featuring beefed-up Xbox 360 hardware and built-in Project Natal technology. From the 1UP report:

Microsoft will not only release Natal as an add-on for the Xbox 360, it will come standard with the next Xbox console.

Yes, there will be a new Xbox console next fall.

However, the new console won't just be an Xbox 360 with a camera, though -- we've heard it will be considered a new platform and carry a new name (Xbox Natal?). It's not clear what sort of upgrades we might see, but some have suggested it will be an slight upgrade of the current Xbox 360 technology. "

So it may very well be possible they will release it for the xbox ..thingy.

It doesn't matter to me though, since I have PC. :]

OF COURSE.

That could all be bull. The only way to see is to wait and see, eh?

Either way I'm tired of "slight improvements" that don't really improve.

Beth soft are always trying to be fair to all gamers, all fans, no matter the system they use for their games. Also they always try to produce the highest quality and we all know how fond they are of graphics and how much they put into progress in this field. Basically it means that they cannot release another TES game for this generation consoles and they will be reluctant to release another Fallout too, since they squeezed out all they could from current level Gamebryo. They will most likely aim for new hights and they won't do it just for PC gamers since that would be unfair, thus they will wait, end of story.

Except for the minor detail that Gamebryo's potential has not at all been maxed out, nor has the hardware for the current systems. Gamebryo is game engine software, and software always has room for optimization. Object culling, decent LOD texture transitions, FPS hit from NPCs on screen, etc, etc. If there were no more room for software optimization, then there would be no more versions of Gamebryo. And rest assured that Emergent certainly hasn't been sitting around doing nothing for the past 1 to 3 years. The version of Gamebryo that Bethesda is likely using right now as part of their in-house development title is almost guaranteed to be a higher and more optimized version than what was used in Fallout 3. And, hardware and memory optimization, writing more efficient shaders, etc, etc, means that your hardware doesn't have to be the latest and greatest to do great things with it. Current-gen hardware, therefore, is hardly maxed out.

The big issue for me (and probably at least a few other broke-ass college students) is that I plain and simple lack the money to buy a new console or upgrade my computer. hell, buying the game as is is already a stretch. I doubt a batch of folk as money-savvy as Bethesda would willingly turn a blind eye to that fact.

It seems like the current-gen consoles will be around a lot longer than the previous ones. So that said I believe the next ES game will be released on PS3/360.

One of the devs has said previously that immediately after Morrowind was released back in 2002, the team was split into two: one to work on Morrowind's 2 expansions, and the other to start work on Oblivion. TES V has been in the works since at least 2007 if not earlier.

Anyone live near bethesda employees? Try following them, or at least go through the garbage.

Creepy.

I just have a gut feeling it is something totally different. Like Bethesda wants to broaden their horizons and develop a third, top-selling video game.

Ewww I hope not.

Exactly, and if the cryengine team can get Cryengine 3 running on 5 year old hardware (which is amazing) I KNOW that BETHESDA (one of my favorite companies) can do something similar.

Beth doesnt do the engine, they buy it from another company.

In fact, I'm guessing we'll start to hear about TES come Spring.

That would be nice.

TES V has been in the works since at least 2007 if not earlier.

That would also be nice.

The next gen is quite a long way away and so I'm confident that TES:V will be on the current-gen consoles. TES:VI - if there ever is one - will almost certainly be a next-gen game.

This does seem to make sense.

I don't have any doubt they have been working on TES since around 2007 it's just when they want to RELEASE it.

What I am hoping is that TES V will become the next KOTOR of RPGs. That...would be amazing.

Well, I've said it before in other threads but it's pertinent: according to the devs for Gears of War, they won't release gears 3 until the next gen of consoles "in 2012." Waiting six years between flagship series titles is simply not smart. Bethesda is smart. Simple math.

I think and hope that it will be a next system game as well. I have actually started to feel the hype recently. I will play through the four previous games in anticipation as sooooon as they announce it. 8)
