Next stop: Lonesome Road - tips anyone?

Post » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:01 am

Ok, I'm excited about playing my final dlc, Lonesome Road and I know very little about it. So, please, share your tips, secrets and advice with me if you will. My first question would be can I take my gear with me, but I'll take any knowledge about the dlc you'll offer. Thank you for any help you may offer. You can throw out any tip at all: it's all welcome.

Have you done Honest Hearts yet?

I highly recommend saving Lonesome Road for last. It just feels more fulfilling if you save it for last. The story and the level of difficulty just have a sense of closure. The difficulty makes you feel like you're testing your character's strength and showing all that you've learned up to this point, and the story definitely feels like closure. Don't wanna spoil it, but yeah, the ending is pretty massive.
So yeah, I know you might really be looking forward to it, but hold off on it if you still haven't done Honest Hearts. Trust me, it's better that way, and Honest Hearts is a rather brief DLC anyways. Like, the first time you played Dead Money you complained about the length and being stuck there, cause yeah, Dead Money traps you for a good 6-8 hours. Honest Hearts is more like 3. It's very brief and somewhat lacking in story, but it's fun and rewarding nonetheless.

If you insist on doing Lonesome Road before Honest Hearts or have already done Honest Hearts....

There's nothing much we can tell you. And I think if anything, Lonesome Road is the DLC that's best to explore yourself, and not to spoil it. Lonesome Road is simply there to test everything you've learned through your journies. It's up to you to figure out how to handle it's challenges. Spoiling it and giving you tips on how to handle certain points? I think that'd ruin the fun. Just go in there and try it yourself, see how well you do.

I've got a few tips if you would like them.

A. Don't forget you can always go back home and resupply for things. This is really helpful after defeating some tougher enemies.
B. READ ALL THE NOTES AND TERMINAL ENTRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough, finding journals and terminals are some of my favorite parts, you can even get rewards for certain ones.
C. E-DE is very valuable if you find certain things for him, pay attention.
D. There are many cool things in LR, pay attention and do EVERYTHING. Searching everywhere really makes the DLC better.
E. Have fun, this is one of the coolest DLCs, especially with a certain NPC.

Also watch the trailer, because it's a badass introduction to the DLC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KICszQNDUOA

I've done them just as you advised. DM, HH, OWB, LR correct?

Ah really? Ok, just didn't know cause you never wrote about Honest Hearts here. What'd you think of Honest Hearts then? Just curious since you seem fond of Dead Money post-completion but none too fond of OWB.

Then yes, Lonesome Road is the last stop. As I said though, I think it's an adventure better experienced for yourself rather than getting tips on it. Think of Lonesome Road as the final test for your character, see how well you handle it's challenges. And watch the trailer before starting it.

Good luck.

I thought HH was a lot of fun. it had FO3 feel, gorgeous scenery, and hot stuff for chicks to wear. I really enjoyed it.....however the story was sort of vague and a bit confusing, but the game play was very good.

explore! i sorta rushed through it my first play thru. Also make sure you have the faction rep you want, for some reason you have to be fairly hated to hear the indie dialog it seems

Then I take it you didn't shoot Follows-Chalk your first playthrough?

Then congratulations, you get to join the exclusive "I went to Zion and didn't shoot Follows-Chalk" club, complete with a complementary T-shirt.
A LOT of people (a ridiculous amount, maybe 75%?) accidently shot him their first playthrough and ended up skipping the entire story and the entire DLC, because shooting him means every named character becomes aggressive and you're forced to slaughter them all to leave. People were like "wtf this DLC was one hour long and didn't make sense!?!" and thought it was massively bugged, so much so that the devs had to make an official statement saying "Yeah, don't shoot Follows-Chalk."

But yeah, welcome to the elite club!

EDIT: And one tip for Lonesome Road: be patient with Ulysses. He's practically the only person you'll talk to, but he's a VERY interesting character if you hear him out. He tends to speak in metaphors, which loses a lot of people and is the main reason it takes time to fully grasp Lonesome Road's meaning, but it's definitely interesting if you bother to hear him out. Don't skip his dialog, but rather try to anolyze the meaning behind his statements. Ulysses is perhaps the most polarizing, complex and detailed NPC in all of New Vegas.
