Next Two DLC's for Skyrim Rumored to be about Snow ElvesNord

Post » Mon Sep 16, 2013 1:08 am

http://www.examiner.com/article/next-two-skyrim-dlc-releases-may-feature-elves-dwarves-nords-and-new-king

But then this source says that a developer called the claims half truths and falsehoods: http://www.vg247.com/2012/12/07/skyrim-snow-elf-dlc-rumour-downplayed-by-bethesda-employee/

What do the lorumites think? If true, do you think this is the right step in terms of its impact on lore?

For me, personally, seeing a new King and a fight against the Thalmor wouldn't bother me since it has to happen in TES lore sometime anyway, and its a new conflict.

The Snow Elves would be cool to see explored, but tampering with the Nords and Dwarves might ruin some of the lore established by Morrowind regarding the Heart of Lorkhan and it might even affect our Hunt for the Amaranth search.

If they did do some history on Snow Elves, Dwemer, and Nords, I'd prefer if it was kept within Skyrim, and all the Morrowind stuff was left out of it.

I've never really been one of those people to complain about devs releasing incomplete games and then filling the holes with paid DLC, but damn. Between this (if true) and KotN, it seems like Bethesda is just giving us a bare-bones, almost-satisfying version of the racial/provincial lore and history in the vanilla games, and then asking for $20 when we expect more. It'd be like if half the materials on the Battle of Red Mountain had been added by Tribunal.

I highly doubt either of these, besides maybe something on the Thalmor.

Seems like the rebuttal is probably legit. Evidence of an upcoming Falmer-centered DLC was found in the game's files some time ago, so it's not really news, while the one about the new high-king and fighting the Thalmor smells of BS.

Nonetheless, I do hope it's more "half-truths" than lies, since more free content would be nice.

I'm assuming you're thinking of Dawnguard's files.

Yeah. As in "pre-Dawnguard" news. And what did we get in Dawnguard? Oh right. Snow Elves.

I agree mostly with wintermute. It's being hopeful to wish for more, but I think the whole thing is B.S.

Dawnguard added a massive amount of Falmer lore.

This is based on an old reddit thread from at least one month ago. i saw the thread, and a bethesda dev came in saying that "half-truths" bit; and later on the OP admitted that he was trolling, IIRC

By the way, there was a "Snow Prince ascension burning" -script added by some of the patches (1.6 maybe). Was that specific script used in Dawnguard with Vyrthur or is it something that is waiting release?

I am pretty sure that is the script relating to when Vyrthur goes all god mode to break Serana's grasp on him and he flys up into the air and shoots out a ray of light/

Yeah, I just checked that one on youtube. I think most of these rumors seem to be unsubstantiated hypey stuff to fuel in visitors to the endless gaming sites.
Although I agree that most mid-level gaming sites are spreading unbased hearsay, the fact that Bethesda dev's went into panic mode with these "leaks" and felt they needed to remove them from Reddit makes me feel that they actually had some base in reality. And they called them half-truths so they weren't flat out denying them.

Anybody with a half-assed knowledge of the Lire could make those DLC's up.

The leak is fake but the DLC's could happen.

The one about exploring the Nordic culture and electing a new High King is a good idea and quite plausible as a DLC. I just know that moot business has to be resolved in a DLC. There's your half-truth righ there.

That would be sort of strange. Unless you did Season Unending and left the civil war questline at that, most of the Jarls that get put on the their thrones are obviously all in for the victor. Sounds like a rather short DLC, unless the Thalmor in the embassy try to muck it all up.

I wasn't thinking about the whole DLC revolving around that, I was thinking more a background thing while you are busy "exploring the beginnings of the Nords and Skyrim's culture". Could even be an optional questline like Helseth's in Tribunal.

Where would the player fit in? Unless you can be elected in which case it seems like kind of a shoo-in since you're the freakin dragonborn.

I'm just saying the moot is likely to get resolved. It's up to Bethesda's writers to come up with a reason for the player to be there.

But, hell, here's an idea anyway: Skyrim needs political and military unity to face a common threat. Let's say that the Aldmeri Dominion has made contact with surviving Falmer and has made them promises of unmaking mundus and all that good stuff so they no longer have to suffer their deformity.. So a High King must quickly be elected. If you sided with the Empire, you can either help Elisif or Balgruuf. If you sided with windy-cloak you can help him or Balgruuf. Then the rest of the DLC is about ending the threat.

There is exactly zero chance of a Moot DLC. Just as there wasn't any Kvatch DLC with Oblivion. Its old news. Bethesda likes to flex its creativity and imagination to build new worlds. Just think back on how Morrowind's DLC took us to Mournhold and Solstheim. Or how Oblivion's introduced lots of brand new lore with Knights of the Nine and took us to the Shivering Isles. Then with Skyrim we've been (or will be) taken to the Soul Cairn, the Hidden Vale, Solstheim, AND Apocrypha. Bethesda isn't into doing "epilogue" DLC with largely vanilla content. I think most players would be upset if presented with that sort of DLC anyway.

Besides, they're done making DLC for Skyrim. I know most of you are pretty optimistic, though.

I see your point, It is true that they usually like to make a new world; I myself actually prefer something big, and have been expressing my desire for Orsinium for months. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that there is zero chance of something like this happening.

Something about the origin and culture of Skyrim could bring in loads of new lore aswell. KoTN didn't take us anywhere too big or special.. I think

Broken Steel was a rare thing that happened just because of how abysmal Fallout 3 original ending was, one DLc out of like the 20 they have done makes it an oddity.

Well, there's also Tribunal.

Expansions/DLC that take place after the main quest aren't really all that unlikely, is all I'm saying.

Dragonborn is already pretty tied to the main quest, in that you need to be recognized as Dragonborn before you do it.

I really want a continuation or some kind of satisfying end to things like the Civil War though.

Its sad that most of the civil war content was cut, at least 11 radiant repeatable quests, cut down to 3, that each only happen once.
