SF, Seattle, Denver, New England
I saw an interesting stat about Carolina today. Under Ron Rivera they are 0-6 after a week off. 0-3 in season openers, 0-3 following bye weeks. Looks like their side of the rest vs rust question is pretty clear. SF comes in hungry, Carolina settles for a surprisingly good season and comes out flat.
One day Pete Carroll is going to regret doing bush league college things like calling trick plays in blow-outs and running up scores. Much as Sean Peyton is feeding the bulletin boards I don't think this is the time. Seattle wins big again and ticks Peyton off even more.
Chargers waltz into Denver remembering beating Denver in a fast turn around Thursday night game, finds out that with an extra week of prep and rest all that did was motivate the Broncos into crushing them.
One day Andrew Luck will be the best clutch big game QB in the league, but this week he won't even be the best clutch big game QB on the field. Belichek schemes TY Hilton completely out of the game and Pats beat frustrated Colts in a close one.
We had a great weekend of football, now we get a weekend of mostly blow-outs.
By the way...
Odds of a team playing their season home opener against the team that goes on to win the super bowl that season...1 in 32.
Odds of it happening two seasons in a row less than 1 in a thousand.
Odds of it happening four seasons in a row less than 1 in a million.
If San Diego wins the super bowl they will be the fifth consecutive super bowl winner that beat the Eagles in their home opener, completing a one in 32 million plus run of weirdness and possibly signaling the apocalypse.
