nGCD vs. Realistic Leveling vs. KCAS vs. OblivionXP

Hi guys!

Who'd like to share their experience with these mods? I really can't decide which to take!
Generally I like Bethesda's concept of improving what you do most, but I bet I'm not the only one fed up with efficient leveling ;)

I guess what I'm most concerned about is:

1) stability + compatibility
2) how well it can be applied to existing savegames,
3) that it "feels" natural and realistic!
4) that it stays balanced throughout the game

1) stability + compatibility
2) how well it can be applied to existing savegames,
3) that it "feels" natural and realistic!
4) that it stays balanced throughout the game

1) They should all be okay there.
2) No idea. It is not something I would even try. But then, I tend to be overly cautious and meticulous, when it comes to modding. I do not expect others to be, if that matters.
3) No idea what you mean by that. But from the "sales pitch" (not to mention name!) Realistic Leveling would have to be high on the list, surely.
4) No idea what you mean by that, again. "Balanced" is a bit of a funny thing to begin with, in Oblivion. Mods generally make the exact variety (and perhaps degree, in some cases) of funny a little different, but regardless, Oblivion remains quirky and somewhat lacking, particularly at very high levels.

So, as usual, it comes down to personal preference. No matter how many people tell you "this one", or "that one", you will inevitably have to try one or more, and see what you like best!

If it was up to me, I would tell you nGCD + Progress, or Oblivion XP, depending what kind of game you want to play. But there is nothing wrong with other options (e.g., Realistic Leveling).

As you can already see, there are many, many ways of approaching character leveling, in Oblivion. None "perfect", but some superb. Plenty more, if none on your current list works out...

I've grown to hate leveling systems where you improve skills by using them. Sounds good in theory, but in practice it means to improve your armor just find a rate to attack you for 5 hours while spamming a low level light spell to improve illusion. Some might say improve skills by using them is immersive, but the grindy aspect of the best way to improve is just awfully tedious. Your choice is to play the game, or focus on improving skills.

I've used Oblivion XP and enjoyed it, you are rewarded for doing quests and accomplishing things, which is good. I use wrye leveling now, which is basically means you pay money to level up after a certain amount of days have passed, cost, time, and how many skills/attributes you can increase are configurable. So, you are rewarded for earning money, but as long as you don't wait in bed until you are max level then it feels pretty natural.

To me, Realistic Leveling is the most natural. Install and forget. Use your skills.

Oblivion XP is great for control on when you level and what skills you increase.

I used both and depending on how I want to play the game, I use one or the other. For the realism/immersion player, Realistic Leveling is the way to go, IMO :)
