NGD: Legendary Item Drops Removed From Exploration

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 6:10 am

What you're seeing, is the invisible hands of Zenimax's corporate suits at work. We first got an inkling of their presence with the Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion, just dipping their fingers in the water for a feel, but they got ridiculed so bad for that the corporate suits backed off for a bit. The next time we felt the invisible touch of the corporate suits, is when Skyrim was prematurely rushed out the door for the 11/11/11 date. Then, the corporate suits had a not-so-subtle grasp on Elder Scrolls Online, with the ridiculous Imperial Edition (which completely went against what Paul Sage said). Then, we saw the corporate suits make a blatant cash grab with the "paid modding" debacle. Now, we see the corporate suits have a vice-like iron grip over Fallout Shelter, and are milking that cash cow for every drop they can get.

When a gaming company becomes too large with too much success, the corporate suits notice and take it over, turning it into just another EA/Ubisoft.

I really wish it weren't so, but at this point—with absolutely no response at all—there's little reason to believe otherwise.

I just this evening got an Enhanced Combat Shotgun from a National Guard drop...is this a thing worth noting or just a "rare" drop?

EDIT: The character had 10 luck natural and was wearing Fancy Formal Wear, so she had a luck stat of 15; in case that matters.

Not a legendary item; just "rare." Still, thanks for taking a moment to check. As me mentioned, there's still no way to get any legendary items (aside from lunch boxes) after update v1.2/v1.21—and still no response from Bethesda or any of its representatives. On a related note, other forum threads have sprung up detailing the low instance of legendary drops from lunch boxes.

Even the lunchboxes don't drop much legendary:

I do not know what Bethesda want. May be they want to remove this game.

to be honest, this might be the whole deal bro.

The launched it, drew people attention to the upcomming F4 and thats all. why have people working on an app, when its not profitable?

they are after all companies, not entertainers ;)

I have heard that they made millions in the first 2 weeks, why not making this game better.

At least keep it working instead of ruining it.

Earlier today one of my explorers, for the first time ever, got more than just bottlecaps from the NGD. He got an Armor Piercing Sniper Rifle. Probably not a Legendary weapon, but better that just bottlecaps.

I purchased about 15 lunchboxes early on, then stopped buying when I realized that most of the contents was junk. "Stimpak x 1", or "Rusty Pistol".

Wondering how they can make millions of dollars by selling this.

The point is the lunchboxes.

We could get all the items from the wasteland, and stat 28/40 dwellers with super-childs.

Why buy the lunchboxes which mostly craps?

Now only the lunchboxes can provide weapon above 20 and outfit above 7, you may need to pay a lot for it.

Turn off your auto update if you still want to play the game. I think they may remove the super-child in the next update.

Good point. I'm definitely not updating anymore until I have a chance to see the forum posts.

Also noticed that the rare drops are mostly outfits. It is much harder now to increase the fire power.

Well, Bethesda is getting no more of my Money for this game unless they fix the drop rate and remove the '500 caps' from lunchboxes that you get when you've clearly got enough money. 500 caps is not a rare item, so take it out please.

I was about to spend £15 on a pack of 40 boxes, but I stopped and thought, what the hell for, I'd get a load of caps, loads of crap I'll instantly sell and perhaps 1 or 2 goodies.

When you're in survival mode, you need decent guns and lunchboxes are the only way to get them, you simply don't get enough to warrant the £15.

And threads like this go to show I'm not on the only one thinking this way, its costing them money and I suspect they made the change in an effort to sell more lunchboxes.

Still, the lack of comment is pathetic, although I suspect its because they've got one community guy who's time is split across all the forums and with Doom Alpha and FO4 out, I suspect he's a bit preoccupied and they obviously don't trust anyone else to have posting abilities on the forum.

I always thought I was lucky with lunchboxes prior to the most recent update, however now I've gotten 500 caps thrice in a row from lunchboxes and it seems like this is what lunchboxes are about now.

I don't mind getting caps over a legendary character, weapon, or suit; but 500 caps is seed money. If they're gonna consider it a "rare" item increase the value tenfold or at least remove it.

Seeing as legendary items were scrapped from the Wasteland and now even lunchboxes are become worse, looks like the best bet to get legendary gear is if I purchase 100 lunchboxes and hope I get at least 1 legendary.

Good thing lunchboxes are on sale, am I right?

I am now in the end game and what I need is collection.

People says that it takes 2500 boxes to get all the legendaries and I do not want to spend that kind of money.

We have expressed out opinions here and hope Bethesda will change it.

I keep my vault dormant and wait...

I feel the only reason this game exists now is to hook people who have not played yet into spending a few bucks before their eyes are opened and they quit. The game has had a few patches, not to add player enjoyment, but to fix issues that made it extremely easy to get AppStore and Play to refund your purchases. With bugs like disappearing vaults and constant crashes in check it is much harder to make a claim for refund, just being disappointed at their greed unfortunately does not cut it.

And yeah, while they were patching the bugs that cost them money, they did modify stuff to make people spend more. The way it works, these games have casual spenders as well as whales. Casual spenders are unlikely to spend any more or any less no matter the state of endgame, while whales will spend any amount to just to gain the feeling of completion.

They don't listen to suggestions on these forums because, quite frankly, they don't have to. Developing the game further is always a risk, and since millions of gamers have allready been driven to quit the pot is just that much smaller. At the end of the day it is more profitable to leave the game in state of abandonware to generate free revenue. The money keeps pouring in until the market is saturated with players wise on their antics. That will take months, if not years.

Looks like 1.3 did not reinstate Legendary Drops from the NGD. So unless you are willing to purchase hundreds of lunchboxes spending hundreds of dollars to collect Legendary Items the game has no attraction once you have your dwellers leveled and vault running smoothly. Even with the addition of pets it does not extend the end game unless you are willing to spend even more money to collect them.

It's actually counter productive. The more a person must pay to complete, the more likely they are to cheat via save game editors. Why pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars when it can be done for free? This is sadly why piracy, gold farmers, and save editors prevail: they give people what they want, regardless of what they would normally have to do to get it. When the cost becomes too high, the easy way is much more tempting because it's that much easier to justify, e.g. the publisher is charging a damn fortune for gameplay that was originally in the game, but got cut (kind of like launch day DLC, or here the NGD event).

Are we really sure already? :( It was only a 10% chance to get a legendary after all.

Abandon all hope. It's true, and it's been true for the last few months. The NGD was removed in v1.2, and has never been reactivatied since. We know. We've known. We've waited for an answer, and there's been none.

@Gstaff : We have not gone anywhere. We await an answer.

My record on 200 boxes has 5% drop on legendaries.

That is, 5 legendaries in 25 boxes.

8 in 40 boxes that costs $20 (most cost effective option).

So, that would be $2.50 per legendary.

I paid $20 in another game's inapp and get to the end, though still need some "grinding".

Buying lunchboxes is very helpful in the beginning, but disappointed in the end game. Players in other forum mentioned that it will take 2500 boxes to get all the legendaries. That is before the addition of Piper and the pets. So, it will be more now.

Actually, player can get to the end game without buying and lunchboxes. Result for buying and not buying will make no much difference. Either way cannot collect all the legendaries.

Yeah, I know, I was hoping it would be returned in 1.3. After all, 1.3 has only been out for like 55 hours. New 1.3 explorers would just be getting to the NGD now.

Hope, hope dies last.

I have a vault with 25 explorers with full stat running. Just got back to check and found no legendaries.

In my opinion, Bethesda should give the players some incentive to play. Getting goodies from grinding in one of them. It is too expensive to buy all.

Yeah, so I'm going to post to keep this thread alive. I agree this is total trash. This is now a pay to play game. What is the point of leveling your dwellers up and sending them out into the wilderness? Absolutely nothing! I have been playing this game since I ordered my pip boy edition. It was a fun game! But you get to a certain point, like the one I just reached, and it's time to put it down... I have maxed out, geared out, weaponed out and now petted out characters. You can send them out exploring for DAYS and get nothing but the same weapons you already have. What's the point of even leveling your characters??? It's like playing fallout 3, getting to the point of when you are about to leave the vault, only to find out that there are no fat mans or alien blasters out there to obtain. Instead you should remain in the vault and gamble for an alien blaster, which is again pointless... because making your dwellers stronger so they can survive longer does nothing. Any new players should avoid this game. Go buy fallout 4, at least that game is decent. I'm going to 1 star review this game because it's pay to play and pointless. Then I am going to delete it because hayday is more entertaining than this.

I agree. Fallout 4 is better since it is a paid game. Inapp purchase in this game is much more expensive. I have heard people spending more than $100. Is it worth that? Without even all the items?

Paying inapp for the cards is less fun than earning it. I would rather pay upfront with a limit of cost.
