The only teams that really matter here are Chicago, San Jose and Detroit in the west, and Washington and Pittsburgh in the East.
Considering Nabokov and Thornton are the two best/most important players for the Sharks, and have a laughably bad reputation for choking in the playoffs, I can actually see them getting upset by the Avs. There's no way they top the better, more experienced playoff behemoths with Chicago or Detroit.
I'm born and raised in Chicago, and I'm ecstatic that the Hawks are finally good, and I think the playoff run they had last year will help them tremendously this year. The offense is hot, Niemi has been absolutely lights out, and they have the best defense in the league when healthy. They just need Brian Campbell and Kim Johnsson back to solidify themselves in the West, as Detroit is healthy and dangerous. If they play eachother, it's pretty much the winner goes to win the cup.
In the East, I'm not really sold on Pittsburgh. It's been the Sidney Crosby show this year, and that junk doesn't work in the playoffs. As good as he is, he needs some wingers and a 2006-form Malkin to make it to the SC finals. Meanwhile, Washington is ridiculously good. All this talk about Ovechkin isn't why, though. If you ask me, the most important player for them getting to the cup is Niklas Backstrom. If he plays well, and if Semin and their checking lines keep producing, they go on to play Chicago or Detroit for the Cup, and likely win.
Personally, I have Washington and Chicago. The homer in me says Chicago, but I can see any of the three teams I listed taking it.
