It doesn't, but it hasn't always been this way. The lockout a few years ago really hurt, and the lack of major television coverage hurts even more. The NFL has taken over the States, but the NBA and MLB still give it a good run for it's money. Baseball is on a rise right now, despite having to dust itself off due the steroid era. The NBA somehow hangs around despite putting a bad product on the court. The main reason is due to accessibility. The NHL's network deal is with Versus and NBC. Versus isn't available to everyone and NBC only shows a very limited number of games. If the NHL were to get a deal with ESPN or another major network they would be better off. They just don't seem to be doing enough to allow the fans to enjoy their product. That's my two cents anyway.
Agreed 100%, the NHL is a muchbetter league than the NBA.I honestly can't see what is so enjoyable when you watched over stacked teams face D-League talent. Add the fact that when some of these guys are not on the court they are doing some extremely questionable or illegial actions. A big named American born player would also help, there are no American versions of Ovechkin or Crosby. I would also like to see some pointless franchies like the Panthers and Yotes moved to more hoceky friendly areas. It has gained popularity in recent years but the NHL needs and deserves much more respect than it gets.
An ugly game right now, I am starting to fear Tampa. Steve Stamkos is so damn good.
I would love to see the Flyers get another winger to add to Ricahrds on the first line. The whole Nodl, Carcillo and Zherdev thing isn't working.Nodl is a top AHL player, Carcillo is a bum fighet who takes tupid penalties.Shelly can take the role of enforcer just fine.Zherdev is a good talent but her forgets the other 4 guys he plays with.
They also need to work on thier PP, one of the worst in the league but somehow they are the highest scoring team in the NHL.
