NIF File Format - What Tools does Bethesda Use?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:41 pm

My assumption is that once Skyrim is released the nifskope team will update the plugins. As such, I would wait for Skyrim to release before investing in tools, or go with an older version of max (I use 2010 32 bit, and the exporters seems to be fine except for a collision issue which is probably my fault). If you can get your husband in on the updates I would be eternally grateful to the both of you.

Hahaha - I'll be sure to pass along your regards (to my husband). I'm sure he'll be thrilled to hear he's been nominated

We looked at this before and I'm afraid the docs on the NIF format are a little sparse... But yeah, we'll have another look, and perhaps as Lady Nerevar says, interest might pick up again once Skyrim comes out.

Then perhaps you could point me to the Maya ones? I can't seem to find them. At least ones that aren't outdated and sub-par.

I have no clue about that. There should be some. I do not model things, I just did some very mild stuff so I know they are out there somewhere.

It is very outdated, and only supports up to Oblivion. Not sure how far it will go in versions, but it's not enough for Fallout 3/NV, and thus Skyrim. At one point I endeavored to take up coding for the plugin, but despite study, I just don't quite get programming.

Well we've contacted amorilia to get some more details. We're certainly looking at picking up the development of the Max NIF plugin. We'll focus on the 64 bit version.

So I'm going to buy Max 2011 64 bit and pester my husband for a working plugin! :P
