Night eye..

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:33 am

It should be an activated ability lasting as long as I want to in my opinion. I mean, I'm a cat.. I'm ALWAYS able to see that way in the dark. Forgive me if I'm mistaken but I think Argonians in Skyrim have the passive ability of waterbreathing? Have to verify that. Point is, I'm not using the skill alot and IF I do I want to use it freely. I remember in Oblivion I could cast Night eye and keep it to last to whenever I wanted to. This is not a 'power' and should be usable more then once a day. And besides Night Eye we have our Claws which is pretty good for brawls (I think) but we have no unarmed skill so... Useless as well. Feel free to discuss the other racial abilities as well, because I'm not familiar with them yet in Skyrim.

Khajiit's have a "claws" bonus, your claws do more damage than fists. Also, unless I am mistaken, you can cast Night Eye multiple times, not sure though.

15 points of claw damage per hit, which isn't alot in my opinion. Any of you Khajiit players EVER use your claws besides a brawl? You can cast multiple times of Night Eye yes until the duration wears out. Im not sure if it works like this but I think when I cast Night eye for say about 15 seconds and shut it off again I have 45 seconds left of that spell. I just feel that Night Eye is pretty useless compared to other racial abilities and then I'm not even looking at the duration. At night, or in dark dungeons its not so 'dark' after all. Everything is visable. Now if they made parts of a dungeon completely black, then yes Night Eye would serve some purpose.

Night Eye is kind of wasted in the game anyway... I haven't encountered an area yet that it was hard to see in.

Oh i am not so sure personally. With the Khajiit Warrior i hat there where quit a few moments in Dungeons that Night Eye was very useful. Personally i do not use a mod that makes everything darker because IMO it is just right for me in Skyrim.

I play on 360, no mods for me. I didn't touch the lighting on my tv or game and everything shows up pretty decently.

By any chance, can you name one of those dungeons? I'd like to check that out for myself. Cause my Khajiit is 250 hours in and I haven't encountered any area like that.

Ps3 here, didnt touch the brightness either. I just found it good the way it was. It maybe has something to do with that though.

It does for me as well in many cases, but there where quit a few moments in dungeons where the lighting did not adjust enough for my taste, so in those moments Night Eye became very useful to me. But in one point i have to agree, and that is that outside on the plains and such you usually do not need Night Eye.

Well the last two i visited with my Khajiit before i restarted hat several section where i used NE, they where part of the Companions quest line.

Agreed. I'm playing as an Argonian, but even if I was using a Khajiit I wouldn't use Night Eye. I know some enemies can be hard to see, but that's where Aural Whisper comes in handy. I've not come across any loot that I haven't been able to see... and yes, I'm aware that if I had come across it I would've seen it, making that comment redundant.

Lol, I was just thinking about this yesterday. I'm practically looking for a good reason to use night-eye, or even just a dark enough place to need it!

About the claws: it's definitely meh in combat but it is a huge difference compared to my Nord in a brawl. I've finished a brawl in 4 punches while wearing the +10 fist damage gloves found in the rataway.

I'm an archer, I always use it as my melee. (When I'm not backstabbing, of course.)

It seems that people here are assuming that you can only use Night-Eye once per day. Unless they changed Night-Eye in a recent patch, that assumption is false.

I have completed those but when I'm back on I'm sure to take a peek in those areas

Lol nice I want those gloves. So yeah the only practical use for the claws is in a brawl. Now if I could stealth kill with my claws in some sort of way... That would be awesome.

Then my assumption about it beeing a power, so only can be used once a day might be wrong. How many times a day can it be used then? And besides of that its still useless..

If I remember correctly, someone was complaining about not being able to turn it off

I have around 250 hours in the game, and not once did I really need to have additional light or night eye. On lowest brightness setting, only two dungeons so far have been "interestingly dark" without aid, but I'm getting annoyed having to constantly adjust the brightness (normal brightness is okay, maybe even too little, in interior buildings) just to obtain believable illumination levels. To me, night eye seems totally pointless. But I agree, as a damn cat you should be able to use the "ability key" to toggle the effect on and off on demand, rather than some duration effect. I believe it can be used as much as you like.

Ha, you guys must have some awesome TVs because there have been moments (like Blackreach) that I couldn't see [censored], even with a torch. Can't raise the brightness too much though, otherwise exteriors are blinding bright.

While we're on the subject of Khajiit claws and brawling. Has anyone else seen the hand to hand 1st person kill animation?

I was working over Bersi Honey-Hand for the thieves guild, I took him down quickly but in the heat of the moment I continued beating on him. So then his wife walks in front of me, and it suddenly goes into a bare handed first person kill animation! I swear it looked like I pushed her into the counter and proceeded to pound away at her throat until she died! Bersi starts screaming at me, I'm still trying to figure out what happened! Then the gaurds show up wanting my head! I tried to plead temporary insanity, they didn't buy it.

I find night eye makes it harder to see. Sure it brightens some spots up but the already bright places look blurred and way too bright. I wish it would just make it seem like day all the time instead of the crazy effect. I don't think cats have to take their eyes out when day breaks.

And thats why people are finding nighteye not worthwhile.

People adjust your TV settings properly. The game has some fabulous lighting effects that can only really be appreciated when your viewing them as intened. If you sitting with the gamma way up your ruining the visual look of the game. I have adjusted my gamma and brightness to the correct levels and the game looks sweet, AND nighteye is extremely usefull.

Late on a moonless night you will be using nighteye exclusively to see further than 5 feet infront of you in the wilderness. In many dungeons you will find yourself activating it to sneak in and out of the shadows, finding the path to take, and using it to detect and avoid traps easier. Of course in the snow is not as useful due to the high white level background, however everywhere else it becomes an excellent tool.

And for those wondering, night eye lasts 60 seconds and can be used as much as you like, there is no restriction on its usage. You can toggle it on/off at any time, so you essentially have a permanent racial power as you can just toggle it back on when it runs out after 60 seconds.

well it would be stupid if it was ever required considering only kahjiit and vampires can have it in the first place.

Dude it literally blew my mind! And I know it sounds like a Tall Tale, but I swear on my life it happened. I would recommend getting those gloves and clearing a bandit dungeon/cave with nothing but your claws. I would think it should trigger at least once.

it triggers on deat blows fairly often like any other weapons finising moves. its got one that you saw where you pound tem in te face a few times and drop them, and my favorite is where you grab em by the throat lift em in the air and bodyslam them.
