Nightlife

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 10:18 pm

It's obvios skyrim's AI is going to be far beyond anything we have seen in the past that being said should the towns of skyrim have an active nightlife?Would you like to walk into a bar late at night and see some town drunks arguing to the right and a cute little wood elf pole dancing on your upper left maybe a few people in the back playing some typ of pub game and don't forget about a foulmouth bartender that you just can't help but like oh and a few musicians.Realism has always been a big deal to me an active nightlife would help in making me feel like i was in a real world.Anyone else feel this way?or is 8:00 bed time.

It seems highly probable that this will happen.

At night... everybody goes to the heavy bar of the corner to drink mead!

The idea of the elf dancing looks quite anachronical, to me...

I want only a bar with a few guys drinking in it, not dirty girls or anything like that. Nothing big. The rest of the cities at night time apart from some regular guards patroling, and perhaps a robber or murderer once in a while, should be totally silent and calm at night.

If you're going down the realism route, the towns should almost shutdown at night apart from changes of the town watch and patrols. People would tend to be indoors either at home or down in the tavern. Apart from guards and drunks going home the only people in streets would be robbers or other unsavoury types.

Yeah I agree. Dirty girls dancing would be too much I think. Perhaps there can be ONE place like this (like in Morrowind hehe), but not more than that.

I also hope the nights are darker than in Oblivion. But not too dark... that gets very tiresome for the eyes. Still, darker than Oblivion.

Also, would be awesome to meet a dragon at night...
The fire in the dark would create some great atmosphere :)

Nightlife in Skyrim? Lots of booze, singing and drunk fighting, with the occasional hook-up. I'd be kind of surprized not to see this image of Nords portrayed in the game.

You do know that games nowadays have a brightness adjuster... just saying.

But yeah, an active nightlife would be great. Not too crazy about the dirty dancers, but as someone said maybe it could be limited to one place, like that one bar/place in Morrowind. Whatever, though. If it's not in the game, I won't be complaining.

I'd like the nights to be pitch black without one of the moons being out. We need nights that actually require torches, otherwise it's just not right.

Your idea made me think of how Desele'a House of Earthly Delights in Morrowind would be if the NPCs were more alive.

I'd like to find scenarios like the one you mentioned at nighttime in Skyrim's cities. Would certainly add to immersion.

Yes I know... but even with the brightness slider all the way to the left, it still felt too bright in my opinion.
It should be darker by default brightness. It's much more atmospheric.

Personally I wouldn't want pitch black nights
I'd still like to be able to see far away.
I know it's not realistic, but it would be tiresome for the eyes to have a single light glowing up the place all the time during night. I tried having really dark nights in Oblivion (and used a torch), but eventually I just found it too tiresome for the eyes. And it felt pretty annoying too not to be able to see anything 20 feet away.

This is just my opinion though. It's a personal preference I think.

Totally agree - plus night isn't like that, even when there is no moon, you can still see

As someone said earlier nightime in towns should be notably quieter, maybe with a few drinkers wandering home - thieves, soldiers etc.

I would kind of like to see different behavior on certain nights for example town being fairly rowdy on the weekend and just folks going home maybe stopping to grab a drink before they do so during the week. Mining an lumber towns typically are pretty wild on the weekends.

I want robbers on dark corners in certain parts of towns. Random events maybe, like robbers attacking drunk NPC'es outside a tavern or something. If you kill the robbers you get a good word about you in the city. If you shake down the robbers for their money and keep it, you get bad reputation.

On the topic again:

Some nightlife in towns would be great yeah. As other people have said already, people in taverns, a few guards patrolling...
But also a lot of people... sleeping :)

Anyway, that covers the nightlife in towns.
What about in the wilderness?

Personally, I think there should be certain creatures showing themselves at night only. OWLS especially, please :D
A few dangerous creatures... too?
Vampires (if they are in the game)?
Oh and crickets... lots of crickets. :)

Actually, they are pitch black. I live in the middle of nowhere, if I go out and walk down the road away from my yard, it gets pitch black. You can still make the faint outlines of the land around you for a short distance but for the most part if the moon isn't out, you can't see anything. Now if you go out with a full moon, you can see everything very well around. That's one of the reasons I love living out in the country, I can see the sky without any light bleeding from cities.

But yeah, Oblivion had some night life, just a few people walking around the city and such but now they are able to put the full Radiant AI system back in and improved even more, I expect to truly feel that the cities feel alive.

When the sun goes down the berserkers and tough warriors goes to the secret market and trade knitting patterns. While the women sit in the local inns, drink and talk bad about eachother :)

Almost nobody would be in the streets, except the night watch. Anyone who was in the streets would have to legally carry a torch, lamp, or candle, or be accused of criminal activity. This is how it was in the middle ages. Obviously smaller towns are less strict, and people still need to travel home from the tavern, which can be a lively place.

Agreed. Where I used to live, there were times when the power grid would go down, and you could only see about 20 feet or so around you. When I was a kid and would visit my grandparents in the country, you could literally not see your hand in front of your face. I remember it clearly because it was such an odd sensation.

As far as night life, people would either be inside trying to stay warm, or a few people at the tavern. People have to struggle to survive, so there will be very little in the way of bread and circuses.

My 2 cents:

- MORE Taverns
- MORE noise, conversation, music and drinking in taverns
- Make a few of the major cities have a tavern/club similar to the house of earthly delights ie dancers (although this may affect the games esrb rating)
- A few dodgy sugar/skooma dealers in some lower class taverns
- Have drunk people outside taverns falling over, fist fighting
- Have some kids outside trying to get inside but not being allowed inside by the doormen and having to sneak in through windows and then getting kicked out
- Have some woodelfs being refused entry because they look like kids (this would be funyy to witness)
- Have armwrestling contests and other fun games to play.

Those a just a few, but this barely scratches the surface of nightlife possibilities in Skyrim.
