Nine Divines and 17 Daedric Lords

1) Daedric Lords: While a very selfish and dangerous bunch there is no question they are much more interesting than the divines.

I never got that. They're just demons.

Daedric lords are only more "interesting" because they keep trying to remind you that they're there. They're little five year olds that want attention. Personally, I find the aedra more interesting, due to many of the ramifications involved, they do appear to mortals (well in MW and I find it possible that the prophet may have been Talos in KotN), and other things.

I prefer the Daedra. I like Stendarr and Sheogorath best.

I prefer the Daedra. Of the Aedra, I like Kynareth and Julianos the most, while of the Daedra I like Azura and Meridia the most.

You are looking at this from the wrong perspective.
Crushing a single mans mind and crushing an empire can often be the same thing.

Maybe so but when has Sheogorath ever done that? I still don't get his appeal!

He's funny. He makes flaming dogs fall from the sky. What's not to love?

At any rate, Emperor Pelagius was one of his.

Yeah but he didn't take advantage of that did he. If Mehrunes Dagon got in charge of an Emperor, then Tamriel would be a smoking ruin.

In Sheogorath's defence I would have to think yes he took control of Pelagius made him mad. His power comes from people being driven insane if there's no more people he has no power over them.

So he wouldnt want tamriel destroyed since there would be noone left to drive insane, unlike Mehrunes Dagon, Dagon wouldnt mind destroying everything that lives.

Thats my understanding of Sheogorath.

It isn't a question of raw destructive power, or "pwnage" as I understand it is called these days. The guy is just plain entertaining.

I voted Sheogorath, because it's all well and good to go around crushing empires, but why bother when you can have so much more fun tormenting on a personal level? At the end of the day people are more scared of a guy with a knife than a nuclear bomb, the bomb will kill you, but think about all the things he could do with the knife..

That's Sheogorath, the constant fear of what he could do to you, one moment he could be giving you some nice cheddar, the next he could be pulling out your eyes and putting them on shishkebabs. Plus, the guy's charismatic and entertaining, the only silly bit in Oblivion, which was a bit serious most of the way through. And think about it, the guy has enough power to both destroy and rebuild his realm at the end of every era, that takes power and committment.

And with one little consultation with a higher public figure, such as an Emperor, he can send an Empire to ruins for the ruler's lifetime.

Sanguine is a close second, simply because he's the god of Debauchery and Drinking.

Mortals. They can be pretty cool, you know. :P

Kynareth, 'cause she likes the animals! Best boots ever.

Azura, because she (probably) doesn't want to do nasty things to me for no particular reason. And Moonshadow sounds like a nice vacation spot.

My Khajiit Knight hopes to go to moonshadow once his mortal body is dead and he can no longer serve Azura other than a daedric realm in short he hopes to go there when he dies :)

Aedra. Hands down.
Sure, the daedra are fun and cool, but they don't seem like GODS.
The Divines seem much more........ Divine? I feel as though Akatosh (SP?) is watching me in Morrowind and judging my every move, but I don't share that feeling for Azura.
She just comes around occasionally.

That's because despite the arguements that Daedric Princes are "not" demonic, they really are more like Demons then Gods. They're seductive, dangerous, manipulative, and tend to turn mortals away from the Gods that created them.

...Except for the fact Daedra help as much as they harm (Azura and Boethiah for example, they're played great roles in the history of Chimer/Dunmer), they are FAR outside of the spectrum of mortal "morality" (i.e. are not evil, nor good, nor neutral, for mortals are mere ants to them), and the only thing separating Daedra from Aedra is a mere game of semantics.

While the Aedra may have created Mundus, I wouldn't argue Daedra were completely separated from the role, at least from mythology. Azura changed the Chimer into the Dunmer, Azura "made" the Khajiit, etc. etc.

Comparing them to demons would only make sense if the Daedric Princes were evil and wanted to see the downfall of mortality. They aren't and they don't. Their motives are quite alien, and trying to anolyze them as evil does not make sense. Even Mehrunes Dagon is helpful; from the ashes of one thing another can be built.

Another point to consider is that a couple of Daedra were once Aedra, so that becomes even fuzzier.

I never said Daedra were evil, and not everyone considers demons to be "evil". I've tried explaining this before, but no one wants to compare Daedra and Aedra to real religion, so I'm not even going to bother trying to explain it again. But I'm sticking with my opinion that Daedra are based off demons somewhat. If you or nobody else wants to agree with me then fine, I really could care less.

Daedra are demons because they embody the less savory aspects of mortals. The Dunmer revere Daedra like others do the Aedra, but there were devil worshipers (an actual Armenian sect) in the real world too.

I chose daedra. My favorite myself, Sheogorath. :tops: Plus he was funny when he was still around. I sort of miss the original Sheogorath.

No one has answered my question yet.
WHY DOES EVERYONE LOVE SHEOGORATH?

he is most likely one of the weakest daedric lords. If you were a daedric Lord would you rather be able to crush entire cities with a click of your fingers or just snap some puny mortal's mind?

Because he's funny. Also it isn't his place to destroy. Only to cause madness. :slap:

Admittedly, I am ignorant of lore just enough that I am lacking in the full knowledge of all the divines and all the daedric lords, so naturally I prefer the devils I know rather than the devils I don't.

I choose Hircine. I actually voted in favor of Mephala, as I am almost always in the Morag Tong on any given playthrough of Morrowind, but upon greater consideration, Mephala is too subtle and hidden and her plans and motives are infinitely unknowable - only her methods are that which is known and certain. Hircine, however, there's nothing really subtle about Hircine; there is the glory of the hunt and the thrill of the hunted, Hircine lives for the rush of existence fighting for itself, and of all the daedric lords, Hircine plays the fairest.

It was quite hard to choose between the Divines and the Daedra, but I eventually chose the Divines. I've always been an Imperial sympathizer.
My favorite Divine is most certainly Julianos; his domain is the most interesting and the whole thing with Jhunal and the Nordic pantheon is utterly fascinating. I like a lot of the Daedra lords, but I ended up choosing Sheogorath--need I say why? There's something very alluring about the madness he inspires.
