Ninja Character

Not to big on how things work in Oblivion.

Is it true that I can raise Acrobatics and make my character jump higher? If so that really makes me to make a Ninja character. What do you think is the best way to go?

I know the best Guilds would be Dark Brotherhood and Thieve's Guild, but which one do you think will be more lower-level friendly? As in, one which will work my skills up and make me higher level before moving on to the better/harder one? Or should I dungeon dive until I get to a higher level and do them?

Also, I'm not as familiar with the attributes or skills in this game. Which attributes (like speed and strength) should I focus on most as a Ninja? And which skills (Blade, Light Armor) have some useful skills as a Ninja? I'm not familiar with the perks in this game. Can you roll?

I want to use some Ninja-fashioned armor, and the Dark Brotherhood armor looks the same as in Skyrim, so is DBH the best way to go or do you have another suggestion?

I want to use a Katana, so where can I find a Katana very early in the game? Preferably a one-handed one for faster swinging, but a two-handed would be good to duel with if I get caught Sneaking.

I've also done something similar to this although it didn't turn out too great.

Acrobatics WILL make you jump higher the more you raise the skill.

I would do the dark brotherhood first myself as the rewards will greatly help with the thieves guild but remember that the environment levels with you.

Like I said, my 'Assassin/Ninja' character didn't go well so I'm not even going to suggest which attributes & skills you should take.

I used the DBH armour but you could probably enchant something else that looks good which would benefit you better.

You're able to obtain a Katana if you follow the main questline up until you need to take Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple, they will offer you a place in their ranks giving you the access to wear their armour and use the katana both of which are found inside.

It would also be great if you could mention which platform you play on as mods can help with this character if you're on PC. I'm sure other people here could help you out there.

Speed and strength would be your ninja attributes. Agility only affects total fatigue, damage with bows and stagger. It does not affect your ability to sneak.

You will want acrobatics as a major skill. Once it reaches 50 you can roll. Other ninja skills might include sneak, illusion, alchemy, security, hand to hand and blade.

I think the DB armor in Oblivion is very ninja like and it is really good armor.

If you want a katana early in the game, you can follow the main quest for a while and after a few quests, you can get access to a place
Spoiler
cloudruler temple. - Headquarters of the blades
where you can get a katana.

Let me just address a couple aspects of your questions:

1. For a ninja type, I agree that the DB shrouded armor probably looks the best.

2. Yes, the acrobatics skill lets you jump higher. You can raise it to 100, then fortify it beyond that. A great way to fortify it is with restoration spells. Get into the Arcane University (by joining the Mages Guild and doing their recommendations) so you can access the spellmaking altars (or use the DLC Wizards Tower). Get yourself a fortify (any) skill spell and some restoration skill so you can make fortify acro spells. Then make a couple of them with different names. My two are Fortify Acro 100x17sec and Fortify Acro 100x15sec. With acro at 100 and casting these two spells, it puts my character at 300 acro. You can do some amazing leaps like that and dance over and atop rooftops. More spells and some fortify acro enchantments can let your character almost reach the twin moons! Landing damage is something to watch though.

Thanks for quick replies guys.

I like the idea of jumping on and across rooftops. I'll do the MQ until I get a katana and then try the DBH quests.

Also I play on PS3, and I refuse to use magic. I rely on my characters physical skill.

So I read about the A bomb.... How do I prevent it? What's the best way to prevent any glitch whatsoever?

You can also use drain skill to permanently train acrobatics over 100. When your acrobatics reaches 100, you can temporarily drain it below 100 and pay for training. Some folks consider this a glitch or a cheat but it can be fun to be able to make amazing leaps anytime you want. Just don't take it over 250 using this method. At 255 it will flip back to zero.

If you're about the enter a place notorious for gltiches or a quest which holds a quest breaking glitch then I'd suggest saving before doing going near the place/starting the quest. This way you'll be able to go back and try again. (Which for most cases doesn't occur again but can)

On PS3 there is no prevention or cure for the A bomb but I would not worry about too much. I have never encountered it despite more than 1,000 hours of PS3 Oblivion. But I don't have more than about 350 hours on any single character.

Alright I never go over 25 hours with a character.
