Wow...unnecessary thread. But I suppose I should let you know, the katana is not a "Ninja Weapon". The katana is the traditional sword of the Japanese samurai.

Also, I don't think anything in TES is classified as "Ninja" anything, lol.

Can't say it doesn't belong in TES because they're in morrowind and the akaviri use them, but they don't really fit the setting of Skyrim imo. So a no for me.

*cough* Katana aren't ninja *cough*

The knives from SI were pretty close to kunai, I'd love to see them return. Ninjato would be nice too, but they will probably be in (ebony blade, goldbrand)

Thank you. I just didn't want to be the first to say it.

But yeah, Ninja is not really Nordish, buuuut throwing weapons would be really sweet!

I thought Todd already said there wouldn't be any throwing weapons in Skyrim, just bows?

Actually, now that I saw that response, it reminded me of the Renaissance fair, and how multiple throwing weapons from different cultures are present. There you can practice throwing knives (typical), throwing stars (not sure why that's there...), but most interestingly throwing axes(so badass btw)

That actually makes me think applying a simple programming add-on to implement Nordic throwing axes would be cool for both combat and competition in mead halls

Could be worth a thread....let me search first.

There aren't "ninja" weapons in TES, there are Akaviri weapons, which are modeled after japanese traditional weapons and their culture. We could use a naginata if we really do get polearms, that would be sweet.

Instead of things like throwing stars, we could make it more nordic and have throwing axes.

edit: Ok I just noticed someone above me already said throwing axes

Too my impression katanas is a rather common weapon in Tamriel. In the book http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Words_and_Philosophy it is made clear that they are also forged after Tamrielic design(Akaviri design bebing supperior of course).
The dunmer also seem to have their own http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Daedric(but that could just be akaviri).
Edit: In the link to the Morrowind:Daedric page see the list of weapons.

There'll probably be at least one katana-looking weapon, rest assured. After all, your mentor is a blade, and the traditional blade weapon is the akavir katana. Steal his! lol.

Ninja fans, Stealth fans, be at ease. Skyrim has:

-Stealth kills! like the throat slit from the trailer.
-perks like this one (confirmed): silences your footsteps
-a Dragon Shout, uttered in a whisper, that teleports you silently in the blink of an eye.

This game is going to be so epic, for all three archeotypes of playstyle.

It looks like katanas, shurikens, stealth outfits and throwing knifes are part of dunmer culture and it seem like there will be a lot of dunmers (I think I heard that there will be a dunmer city). This way, while those items arent nordic stereotipes, it wouldn't be extrange to find them in game.

Why would you want to be a ninja? They weren't warriors, all they did was hide in a bush and blow a pole at you until it hit you, causing death by poison. They occasionally threw something sharp, and in a fair fight, they died. I don't even consider them assassins, because assassins are skilled.

MW had stuff like this. and it is sad that they are gone. we don't know that they wont' be in the game, but it is very unlikily. the trend since after MW is to put in less weapons and armor, not more, which is lame.

It's not very Nordic.

so? the background will be nordic but that doesn't mean the whole game should be nothing but nordic fashion, that would be blander than OB, different people like different things and there should be a variety of armor and weapons.

there will be weapon and armor mods though, its just lame that bgs is lazy and leaves most of the work to modders.

I can guaruntee that Ninjas were victorious in many a fair fight, and who are you to say they are not skilled? Did you live in Fudeal Japan eh? I didn't think so.

Well the weapons are almost a gimme but Ninja Armor? It would be more of a cloak if anything, It would be cool to see a Ninja fighting a Dragon though :ninja:

Dark Brotherhood isn't enough for you?

What kind of an idiot would go climbing "froze-to-death mountain" in a ninja outfit? silly idea, dark brotherhood outfits from morrowind sound more logical than this!

well MW had throwing stars and knives and the akiviri weapon designs seemed to be used through out morrowind and cyrodiil so i think it would be possible to find them in skyrim as well.

also katana = samurai / ninjato = ninja
