Nintendo 3DS

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:58 am

Well, earlier today Nintendo held a conference at Amsterdam (and a sister conference at New York) and they finally revealed when the Nintendo 3DS will be released and its RRP. I've been eagerly awaiting this news and I've pre-ordered it at Amazon.

So I was just wondering whether any of you are going to get it, and what are your thoughts? Do you think it is a worthy successor to the DS?

The Nintendo 3DS is more than I could have hoped for, to be honest.

Discuss!

-----------------------

Here are the release dates:

Europe: March 25th
America: March 27th

Really excited for it, but I won't be able to afford it come March 27th. Not that I think the price point is bad, just don't have any money period. $250 isn't too bad though, same as the PSP and I picked that up at launch. Looks to have more support than the PSP too. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Mega Man Legends 3, Star Fox, Ocarina of Time, etc.

I'll definitely have one by the holidays, that's for sure.

For that price, no way.

Maybe if it was cheaper, I only want it to play OOT but I'm certainly not paying that much money for one.

250.... for that? Hell no. Get Majora's Mask on there and I MIGHT consider it.

Same here. I'm just a poor college student... but my birthday is in April... maybe I can convince my parents to get it as a gift for me... or maybe i'll go find a job since I only have classes on Tuesday's and Thursday's and then I could buy it myself.

Anywho, the 3DS is looking like quite a lot of fun and has several titles that I would like to play. :P

Yeah, the support is pretty fantstic, Nintendo really want to push the 3DS. The two games I'm really looking forward to though is Professor Layton, and OOT,

For that price, no way.

It is surprisingly expensive.

Most of the games I want have been on the Nintendo 64... which I still own. Hell I could plug it in and play now. Not paying 250$ for some retro games I can just go and play here and now. I do not have an expansion slot, but acquiring that is far cheaper than buying this over priced handheld. Hell! I could almost upgrade my computer for 250$

Depends on the games at the time of release.

I paid $200 for my PSP, so this isn't really that expensive, comparatively. Not sure why everyone is so up in arms saying it's soooo expensive. New technology is always more expensive than the last, I mean hell the PS3 cost 600 bucks at launch! I'll be getting one, but not when it first is released. I always wait a while after a console comes out for it to build up a nice library of good games.

They aren't stellar (at least in the West, Japan gets some Layton), nothing must-have to be honest. Devil Survivor Overclocked by June though, which is the only thing I'd be picking up near launch.

My brother said a revamped Ocarina is going on it.

Pfft so what. I preferred Majora's, it's my Zelda game and my only one I ever really liked or played as much as I did. Don't get me wrong it's a half decent series, but that game was just impressive.

... I have a complex relationship with games where I don't play that many but obsess about a particular franchise. My point ? My point is there's gonna be a 3DS Kingdom Hearts. :banghead: I bought a DS just this summer.

Damn the price is steep. I didn't expect them to go that up.

Yup pretty much the only thing I'd probably get for it... Devil Survivor.

- Crappy battery life (5 hours with a 4 hour charge time? WTF!)

- Expensive release price

- No release-day Pokemon game

That's a big "no" on me getting it. I am glad, though, that they included an option to disable the 3D. When I do buy one (>$150 probably), I'll definitely disable the 3D effects. Hopefully that will also boost the battery life.

One thing I find insane (and already know people complaining about) is the price of the 3DS in America. The JPY is something like 82 yen to the USD, but our price is actually significantly below the Japanese price (current exchange rates put the Japanese 3DS at just above 300 USD). Still too expensive for my blood, but I can see a lot of Japanese importing the cheaper American one ($50 price difference will easily cover customs and the exchange rate).

Knowing Nintendo, by the time it comes down to $150 there'll be redesigns that consume less power and sport a better battery.

Guess I hit the back button too much and came back a few minutes later to repost -_-./.
But still a single game isn't really enough to sway me.

No need,Pokemon Black and White will be for the DS.
Now when Gray or whatever the third version is released, and if it needs the 3DS, then I will get it, Otherwise, I will wait until Generation VI. None of the games justify a 250 dollar price tag to buy it right away.

But I thought I read 3DS would be region-locked ? They will import their games then ?

Oh, that's lame. One of the best things about the DS was it was region-free.

If I remember correctly, the 5 hour battery life is only with the 3D on. Without it the battery life is higher, but not by much.

Absolutely zero interest, even if the price were only $50 instead of $250.

If I want to play a game when traveling I can either download something from the app store on my iPhone - otherwise my laptop will run most recent games at 1920x1080 resolution.

Pretty much zero interest in it at the moment. If they start selling it for $10 I might consider it, but until then I'll stick with my PSP.
