Nintendo NX due for release in March 2017 with new Zelda

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 8:05 pm

The Nintendo NX console is now due for release in March 2017. Furthermore it will NOT be announced or present at E3 this year. There will be a separate announcement for the console later this year.

The only playable Nintendo game at this year's E3 will be "Zelda U" and that has also been delayed until 2017 to (probably) coincide with the NX launch.

So, what ARE they going to present at E3? They seem to have nothing other than Zelda and I'd rather not have that spoiled. I guess I can just ignore Nintendo's E3 this year then.

Just goes to show how wrong all those "rumours" were too.

Lol, a friend of mine pre-ordered that game back in 2014. Told em that was a bad idea. :P

I wonder if Nintendo is worried about the NX sales and that's the reason for this delay. Release a game on the new system you know people will buy and sales are guaranteed.

Also, was Nintendo at E3 last year? I seem to remember them skipping out on it and instead they held their own stream or something.

Tbh, I usually read up on E3 news after the fact, but Nintendo have most certainly missed E3 before. It has never served them well though and no-one skips a home console announcement at the biggest show in the industry.

To my knowledge, no home console has not had some measure of presence at the last E3 prior to it's release.

This was supposed to be the big reveal and now they're delaying it.

So, fans are disgruntled and concerned and that's understandable imo, but IF they delay it again until after E3 2017, THEN people will quite rightly be angry about this.

After the Wii sidelined it's core audience for a one trick pony marketing campaign aimed at everyone else, and then the Wii U just failed to go anywhere due to it turning up too late and not having third party support; you have to wonder whether this is Nintendo's last chance as far as a new home console goes. They cannot afford to screw this up imo, but missing the hype of E3 and the Holiday season for 2016, is sure to damage their marketing.

Furthermore, the current console gen will most likely be replaced by 2020, so the NX is looking to compete for three years in the current Gen before we move on. Delays do not help that.

So, make no mistake about it, people will be waiting with bated breath for this separate reveal and the subsequent release in March 2017 (worldwide release. No Japan first BS hopefully.). If it gets delayed again, for whatever reason, it's going to severely impact sales of the new hardware.

Hopefully no "gimmick" crap either. Just the ability to use a standard controller please.

Nintendo is still a thing?

I might have to look into the NX, if only for nostalgia's sake.

Didn't they do the same thing with Twilight Princess? I know many Wii U owners must be mad but it shouldn't be surprising.

Tbh, as a Wii U owner, I'm not mad about the Zelda thing at all.

However, no NX presence or announcement at E3, only ONE playable Nintendo game there (Zelda) and the console releasing after the holiday period (March 2017) make me kinda worried tbh.

That said, people worried about Nintendo snubbing Wii U owners are probably overreacting. I mean, the Wii worked with Gamecube controllers and games, and the Wii U worked with Wii games and remotes (and Gamecube controllers via the adapter). The chances are that the NX will be compatible in some way with either Wii U software or peripherals.

2016 is pretty much dead air for Nintendo though. I don't own a 3DS and I don't care for "Apps". I like my gaming experiences to be home console-centric.

Would be nice if it was backward compatible with the wii u since I only one one game and can't play it since I have no console.

Which game?

Tbh, the Wii U has quite a few great games. Just nowhere near as many, or as great a variety, as it needs.

Yeah. That's Nintendos own fault. They refuse to collab and remake pretty much the same 5 games over the coarse of 3 decades.

I've been playing through Xenoblade Chronicles first and have had XCX on my shelf for a while. XC is definitely the best JRPG I've played in the last decade, if you count Dragon's Dogma as a WRPG (which it kinda is).

I pretty much bought the console on the promise of XCX and after seeing Hyrule Warriors trailers.

Zelda characters in true HD just sent me into a spontaneous fangasm.

Best game on the whole console. <3

You know, I don't own a 3DS, but I'm happy to shell out for just those characters on the second upcoming Wii U Season Pass for the game. There's so many more characters they could add too.

I guess I have more of a problem with Valve's fans than Valve itself, although the distinct lack of support for any of their console releases seems immensely lazy.

People hating on Nintendo is old news.

Correction: People hating on any console is old news. Or hell, people hating on anything for no good reason is old news. Just seems to be the way of the world to complain about something without a legitimate gripe. I'm sure I've done it on more then one occasion if I'm being honest.

Pretty much, yeah.

Also, I'm not a fan of Portal, so Valve fans assume I'm "an idiot".

Personally, I get no enjoyment from solving puzzles. I find no gratification in solving those things. I much prefer Strategy titles myself.

portal is my least favorite valve title so I'm a little annoyed seeing it pop up recently on the backwards compatible list before half life or tf2 hell people are still playing tf2.

I know, right?

I've never played the original Half-life either, so I'd be interested to play it at some point. Hopefully a "HD remaster". :P

Anyway, back on topic, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has said some words regarding the release of the NX in early 2017 : http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/04/launching_nx_next_year_is_the_proper_thing_to_do_says_nintendo_boss_tatsumi_kimishima

Heard about this last night.

Between this and Paper Mario, I've been kind of bummed concerning Nintendo. (I'll probably still enjoy Color Splash... But it might not be what I want in a Paper Mario game.)

Ah, well. The first Zelda delay was annoying, but this one is just plain frustrating.

People are rightly concerned that Color Splash will end up like Sticker Star. Hopefully not though.

Mostly, I'm looking forward to the Hyrule Warriors DLC tbh. Playable Marin is next up. :D

I never played anything Valve related so I don't care if they do.

So they have the same old crap from the 1990s?

They're not ruining my life but they done nothing in gaming for what 3 or 4 console generations now with the NX suppose to be the big savior this time. Nintendo does nothing at this point but give people false hope just to let them do.

umm, Nintendo consoles had some great games back in 6th gen (only 2 gens ago).. not to mention, they still mostly dominate the handheld market because of the games they offer on it (well, that and brand recognition), even though the Vita has the superior hardware

no, they are some of the most universally recognized gaming franchises out there, and are partly responsible for games becoming considered "an art form" by the general public (people are more likely to say "hey, thats from Mario/Zelda/Pokemon/Metroid" than "hey, thats that dude from Fallout/skyrim").. heck, the Louvre had an entire exhibit devoted to Mario years back, the [censored] Louvre!

Nintendo, as a company, has done more for gaming than any other studio.. it was Nintendo's games that were first acknowledged as "yeah, you know maybe these could be considered an Art Form".. it was Nintendo that is responsible for gaming even being somewhat popular in the west as the NES was the main reason we ever recovered from the crash of 83 (if we hadn't, alot of dev studios would not exist because they would not have seen a market).. they are one of the only company's out there whos open company stance is "we don't put to much emphasis on Graphics, because we believe a game should be fun first.. graphics can only go so high, so when you reach that limit, what then? thats why our prime goal is simply to make games we see as fun"..

sure Nintendo has been sticking a bit to close to their formula (see how the newer Mario games play almost exactly the same as the earlier ones), but they have done far more for the gaming industry as a whole than any western studio (Bethesda included).. and even if your not a fan of any of their games, you have to respect several parts of their design philosophy. while western studios target most of their games to a specific age group, Nintendo puts alot of effort into making sure their games are fun for any demographic. be it young kid, angsty Teen, or middle aged man, they try to make it so any age group can pick up one of their first party titles and go "huh, this seems fun"..

I'll admit, there aren't alot of Nintendo games these days that I keep up with actively playing (although, i still play the old NES and SNES game from time to time).. sure, I still play Zelda games but thats about it.. however, i respect that they have done more to contribute to the advancement of the industry than either Sony of Microsoft. and the their stance that "games should be fun first, graphics should never be the priority" is something all studios should follow..
