Nintendo DS Help

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:10 pm

Hey forum,

Well Im thinking of getting a Nintendo DS, as there's some pretty awesome games coming for it that Im really interested in. However, I know absolutely nothing about DS. I visited the official website, and got the basic info about NDS, NDS Light, NDSiLX, and even the upcoming N3DS.

But Im really at a loss which one to get. If anyone here has experience with a DS, could they please tell me which one I should be getting? I don't want anything too fancy with many features and all; as long as it plays games well, Im good.

Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

DS Lite has the best battery life and last one to be able to play GBA games. of the DS line, it's the only one I think that is worth getting

Otherwise wait for the 3DS line to come out and get one of those. It's basically a DSi on steroids, plus being able to play 3DS games (DS and 3DS are two separate generations, like Gameboy color and Gameboy Advance)

If you don't want much extra features, a DS Lite sounds good. It does not feature a camera or many of the other features like the DSi does, but if you only want to play games on it the DS Lite or even the original DS (Which is bulkier but cheaper). I prefer the DS Lite myself and own the Crimson version.

I was under the impression that 3DS only plays its own line of games; so, this isn't true?

Meaning I would be able to Pokemon: Black Version on 3DS?

You can play regular DS games on the 3DS, but not the other way around.

The original DS has at best half the battery life of the DS Lite, while offering no new features. You also only save maybe $20 by getting it. Totally not worth it.

My example of GBC and GBA was apt: like the GBA, the 3DS can play DS games just fine. Like the GBC, the DS cannot play 3DS games. The 3DS is backwards-compatible

Alright; thank you for the clarification. :)

Im now torn between the DS Light and the 3DS.. Do you own, or perhaps know anyone who owns a DS Light? The screen isn't irritatingly small is it? No complaints?

Dslite here... Could have gotten one during christmas for about 90.00 or less...currently has ffvi and rune factory inserted. Not even bothered by small screen. Getting a 3ds whenever I see it cheap or good deal

Well in that case; Im seriously considering the DS Lite.. I don't think there's any point of me getting a 3DS anyway..

I'll leave the topic open for now though, in case someone has anything else to add; it never hurts to get some extra opinions..

I also have the DS Lite and have never actually even thought about the screen size.

This is pretty much exactly my plans (I got it at the end of November, when it dropped below $100, I'll probably get the 3DS when it drops below $150)
