Nintendo to release a new console in 2015?

after the ruin the WiiU was, and their major loss of $455 Million last fiscal year, can you really blame them?

I really hope that this time they don't try and rely on a gimmick to sell their console again, as they have been relying on Gimmicks for years (Wii's motion Controller, WiiUs tablet controller, 3DS's 3D screen, DS's dual screens) and it has cost them almost all their 3rd party support...

Opinions?

It's bad for those that already invested in a WiiU. (myself NOT included)

I wish Nintendo would stick to making the best handheld consoles making one unified "for everything" handheld instead of 7 different Gameboys and 3 different DS flavors. As for their first party titles, make them available on BETTER hardware. (ie: PC, Xbox, PlayStation)

Nintendo is a kiddie machine. Well it could not be, but it's marketed as, and that is the way I see it. My kids grew up. So why would I buy them a kiddie machine when they don't watch Teletubbies and Blues clues no more? They are teenagers now. So yeah I don't need a kiddie machine.

If Nintendo's treatment of this newer console is going to be the same way as the WiiU, Nintendo is going to be in a world of hurt, they need to get away from the family and kiddie games and start getting some more 3rd party developers or else they're going to end up like Sega and Atari.

there is a major difference between "Kiddie" and "Family Friendly"..

heck, you walk into an EBGames after a new Zelda or Pokemon game comes out, and half the line is College Students picking up the new title..

It is probably a new handheld device and not a new main console. What they need is more games, not more consoles. If this was a main console this would be a foolish business decision.

...made an absolutely awesome console and got [censored] over by EA and bad marketing? Yeah, doesn't remind me of that. Nice try though.

There is one reason the Wii U is doing bad and that's it. They have a [censored] [censored] marketing department when it comes to the US.

Its probably best they get out of the game unless the make a real attempt at competing against Sony and Microsoft. I hope they do push their competitors and gain respect again.

I didn't see this news as Nintendo making a more powerful console, but rather, cheaper consoles in order to introduce them to markets which can't afford $400+ units.

Even if Nintendo should make a console up to par with the two others, chances are it'll fail. If Nintendo knows how to do one thing well, it's to continue to shun the North American and European market by pretending what we want doesn't matter.

Such as the same six marriage issue in that Wii village game right now.

Iwata should have been fired the second the Wii's catalog couldn't tilt in favor of non-party games.

Post-launch. They had awesome marketing before launch, so good even Skyrim bit off it (9.9.99!) but after launch it petered out and they couldn't compete with the PS2 hype.

Seriously, Nintendo needs to stop releasing new machines and focus on building games and marketing. And to all of you who call Nintendo a kiddie machine, how so? Yeah, the games on those consoles tend to be less violent (Except, you know... MadWorld), but tell me why everything needs violence and gore? What makes an advlt game? To me, a grown-up game is one that can maintain interest, tell an interesting story, be fun, etc. without having to rely on shock value and gratuitous schlock.

Master System in 86, Genesis in 89, Game Gear in 91, Saturn in 93, Dreamcast in 99. Not console after console, really.

Making another handheld would be a foolish decision. One reason nobody in my circle of friends and family ever owned a Nintendo handheld console was because of it's ever-changing market. Some of these handhelds cost as much as a Wii.

What he's referring to is Sega during the early to mid-90s, when they just kept on making all sorts of bad decisions. First they released the Sega CD, which was expensive, awkwardly needed to be attached to the Genesis to work, was given poor support, and ultimately ditched. Then there was the 32X, which was given the same treatment, fared much worse, and was released at an awkward time (basically, months before the Saturn was slated to release). And then the Saturn, which came out even earlier than previously announced to select retailers (generating bad will among those that didn't get stocked at that point, as well as companies that were making launch titles for it), was run into the ground with even more bad business decisions. All of these actions wrecked both consumer confidence in Sega and pissed off developers, and it's why they had to eventually withdraw from console development.

The Wii U and Nintendo's treatment of it, from their hasty release in-between generations to their schizophrenic marketing of it, and this apparent release of a new console in a short span of time, is eerily similar to the way Sega handled things back then. And like the CD, 32X, and Saturn, it's gonna' be a black spot on their record for both consumers and developers.

I said how they marketed it. I don't see Family Friendly, to me that is what Kinect does. EVERYTIME is see the WiiU, I see kiddie machine. Even the avatars or people you are to be playing looks like a child pre-kindergartenesqu character. I bought the Wii, the WiiU didn't change much in that regard. So again, it's a kiddie machine in MY OPNION.

People wonder why and Nintendo wonders why the WiiU doesn't sell. I am saying why I am not buying it, and you are telling me I am wrong? NO I am right. You are right. You are right that it's a "Family Friendly" console, I am right that I see it as a Kiddie Console. We all have opinions, we are both right and wrong.

Since I didn't buy the WiiU, my opinion is correct because the WiiU is not selling and I am giving a reason why it didn't sell it to me.
