Nipton town hall cellar key. : Fallout: New Vegas

There is a key behind the "front desk" in the Nipton town hall. It's there and I can see it plainly in the cubby hole...but I can't take it. I get no option to take it. This key opens the door to the cellar.
Any idea why I can't grab it?

The key behind the counter may get stuck between two of square holes in the shelf by the mine exploding; this may be resolved by putting a dynamite by the shelf or any other exploding weapon.

Perhaps that's what happened to you?

Heh, I thought that key was just a decoration. When I couldn't pick it up I blew it off and moved on. Looks like I'll be going back to Nipton to attempt getting the key again.

I wasn't even aware a key was there I have to look when I go to Nipton on my new character.

Thanks LadyCrimson...I'll give that a try...I have no idea what the result will look like . The key does not "appear" to be as the spoiler states...I'm new at this and don't want to state too much for fear of angering the spoiler gods!
