NiStringPalette Question

Post » Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:25 am

Okay So how does one either make one or edit one, I've tried simply replacing the one currently there but nifskope doesn't allow you to add things to it after you've inserted it, So Im having problems making animations work.

don't think you can edit them.
edit:
but I have a hazy memory of discussing this with saidenstorm years ago. can't remember what came of it. It might be writen down on some forum somewhere. either here or silgrad. I think here so its probably been wiped off the board a long time ago.

That was the case until hmm about 2 months ago IIRC... Alphax added the ability to edit them to nifskope (http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2487) and Amorilia added the ability to edit them to PyFFI.

I have the experimental build version. I just openned up an old oblivion door nif I made. I still can't add anything to the values. not that it matters, never needed to edit a kf like that. and I think I can delete them from fallout kfs anyway..
cool about the heads up about pyffi as an option if the needs ever arises.

If you have two or more different NiStringPalettes in the same nif, period, the NiStringPalette will become uneditable. Even just having an extra NiStringPalette in the nif, even if it's not hooked up to anything, will cause the editing ability to go away. So make sure you have only one NiStringPalette used throughout your whole nif.

Wow Cool thanks the new version works like a charm. Now I dont have to re use the old names. Im getting better at editing and making 3d models. 3d models are difficult, Im more of a code guy, not a artist person, lol. I have to say I'm getting better though.

Worked fine here :) ... but editing it is slightly different than other things... 2 ways to do it: 1 use the spells menu (spells->animation-Edit String Palletes) or 2 right click your NiControllerSequence menu->String Pallete->replace entries. Then in either case just use the search & replace box to apply changes.
Also it is 1 String Pallete per anim group that is the requirement not 1 per nif (so for most kfs it is one).

:goodjob:

Edit: so you still can't add any entrys though. only swap one in and out? edit2: nvm - you have first add a new controll block for the new node, and it'll apear in the nistringpalette. < thats the old school way, thought I remembered doing one of these years ago. lol I've really forgotten loads of stuff, this is like the third thing this week I had rediscovered.

Yes; however I could easily make a PyFFI spell to add entries (or remove specified entries)... at least I think so... want one?
