Nobody is forcing you to use it!

I need something clearing up. Why are people so against fast travel? It was first implemented in Oblivion, yes, but did anyone force you to use? No. And if the temptation to use it is so great that you do, stop whining, it's your own fault.

So I don't think that this will happen in Skyrim;

Go buy some diamonds form Riverwood! *quest list updated*

*You walk out onto the long, winding road, only to see a big warning sign saying. "Stop! You must fast travel! That's what it is there for, we created this beautiful world for it to be ignored! I repeat, Fast Travel now!*

So what's everyone's deal with Fast travel? Personally I won't use it anyway :sadvaultboy:

This post is flame bait. I generally agree, but this is going to start a flame war.

The game was designed with fast travel in mind. Features aren't entirely independent, everything is designed around the whole.

Without fast travel, we wouldn't have stupidity like having to travel back and forth between two faraway cities to pick up something you should have been given anyway, for example.
Certainly the game was playable without it, but just like the quest-simplifying compass, its effect on gameplay design is not something you can avoid.

I think it was
1. removing the MW-style of fast travel which many people preferred
2. Some people feel the game was built around fast travel and dislike things like FG quests that take you halfway around the map for very little reason

Myself I'm happy we're going to have a choice this time around
