Let's clear some things up. This is not Rockstar's game. This is Team Bondi's. There's a big difference between publisher and developer friend.

They have stated on many occasions that this is not a sandbox playground game. The world is simply there for you to explore looking for cases, patrolling the streets, going to a suspect's place, etc. It's not meant to be your playground. It's meant to be your world. While you can explore this world, but you can't steal cars, kill people, etc. Team Bondi has said before they wanted to get a good mix of open world and mystery solving. L.A. Noire is an extremely different game, and it seems to be that you can't understand it unless you've played it. So in other words, it's extremely unique. So my diagnosis? Buy it :D

I know this is Team Bondi's game. I just wasn't sure if it's a straight linear story, or if you can "go off the beaten path".

No you can go off the beaten path...but only to lead to more cases. Like traveling down an old highway and you see something suspicious and it turns out to be a body for example. It isn't just straight linear, but it isn't completely open.

i do hope to see some side activities, drinking, going out to eat, going to a club.

even if it is just to unlock more dialog.

Actually, Rockstar is doing a bit more than publishing. Its still mainly Team Bondi's game, but its been a joint effort between Bondi and Rockstar in developing it. Also, you can commandeer any car on the street, and that's pretty much how the stealing of cars in GTA works.

I hope that this doesn't become a flop. But then again this is rockstar, and the last time something flopped that was closely related to them was San Andreas, a funny flop but a flop.

San Andreas is by far their most critically and commercially successful game ever.

I never really like any GTA games, thought thier stories where to bland an uninteresting.RDR on the other hand was a phenomenal game.

Ok take it easy there, that's a wee bit of an overstatement.

I know this won't be as "sandboxy" as Red Dead or GTA, but just how linear is it? I'm going to get it no matter what, but I hope it's a bit more open then something like Mafia 2, with a large game world with little to do aside from the main missions.

Exactly what i'm worried about.

@Miller Numbers don't lie. I also can't even remember how many complaints I heard about GTAIV cutting a massive amount of features from San Andreas and how it was "dumbed down".

You mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Emergency_(video_game) right? Not the best selling PS2 game of all time? (or was that GTA 3?)

San andreas has sold over 21 million units. It is the best selling GTA ever, the best selling PS2 game ever, and the 3rd best selling game in history.

So like I said it was an overstatement. You said by far the most commercially successful and now you just proven your sell wrong.

How did I prove myself wrong? I just gave sales figures which proves my point. Commercial success=sales. San andreas trumps the other games in the series in sales.

You said its the best, then you said it was 3rd when actually its not even there. Google it and you can find plenty of list where GTA is not even in the top 10.It used to be around the top but many games have surpassed it since its release.

He said their most commercially successful game, meaning Rockstar, not the most commercially successful game in the world.

To all those who thought I was joking when I said the graphics look dated: They are dated. The facial tech they've added is great, but open world games usually have lower graphical standards and just an eye inspection will tell you that LA Noire follows the same trend. I'm not saying that it really matters to me, but comon, don't deny it. The game looks like it's on the PS2 by today's standards.

I agree with you on the graphics, some of the screen shots I have seen are hit or miss.

I don't agree in the least bit that the graphics look PS2. I think they look great.

(When did graphics EVER matter? Hell...I would buy L.A. Noire even if it was a text based adventure. Seems pointless to talk about graphics if they don't matter.)
