L.A Noire

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:57 pm

So. What exactly is L.A. Noire? In comparison to other Rockstar games?

It has a large open world, like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, but it differs in that its not a sandbox. You can't pull your gun out when not on a case, and you can't murder hapless civilians. So, its kind of like an extension of the adventure game genre. Maybe.

Hmmm... I'll have to wait for it to come out then take a look at it.

It's kinda sorta maybe like GTA. You're a detective in 1940s Los Angeles. There's a lot less gunplay, and a lot of interrogation and stuff.

I've been watching a lot of noir movies to get ready for this game. I just saw L.A. Confidential last night, it was fantastic. Any good movies you guys would recommend?

Sunset Boulevard (Noir set in Hollywood, absolutely essential other then L.A. Confidential)
Kiss Me Deadly (Set in L.A. as well)
Double Indemnity (My favorite of all time)
The Third Man
Kiss Of Death
Touch Of Evil
The Asphalt Jungle
Strangers On A Train
Out of The Past
The Big Sleep
Shadow Of A Doubt
The Big Heat

and tons more..yes I'm kinda a noir fan :P

last time i went to a midnight release (portal 2, same day as MK 9)

they had a drawing for a free copy of Mortal Kombat, which i won, i had already pre ordered Portal 2, so i came home with portal and a free copy of MK. also i whooped the everyones ass at the Mortal Kombat tournament they held, all of them were ashamed to have been beaten by a teenager.

ironic though, i wasn't able to play either of them online much at all cause PSN went down a couple days later.

thanks though, also im not lying, when i was young i was in Karate, every year they had a Halloween costume contest, they would give away a game system to the person with the best costume., i won for 4 years in a row.

i won an Xbox 360, then a PSP, then a Wii, Then a PS3.

Does anyone else feel like L.A. Noire has been influenced by Heavy Rain, in terms of less action more story?I'm not saying this is a bad thing, Heavy Rain ranks in my top 10 games of all time.

I've never played Heavy Rain, and Ps3 is my console. :shakehead:

I think that's something I need to do...

Absolutely... Hopefully the influence comes from Heavy Rain more than it does other games where the dialogue is the "star", like Mass Effect, Alpha Protocol, or Dragon Age...

I'm most curious as to how much you are lead through crime scenes... Just waving the cursor over everything and seeing what gets highlighted is pretty weak...

I'm hoping its like HR where you aren't lead down a strict path where you always have to succeed.

For some reason I have a feeling this will be R*'s lowest rated game. I think it'll be good, but I don't see it garnering the same critical and commercial success as GTA and RDR.

Funnily enough I thought the previous gameplay videos were better than the launch trailer.

Ever since I got burned with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising I'm extremely wary of buying games on release date. I feel like the game's going to be awesome but I daren't buy it until I've seen a few reviews and player feedback.
