Spoiler
Does anyone else here think Jack Kelso is a much better character than Cole Phelps?

I found Kelso far more likable and "cool" than Phelps, especially late game. (In my opinion) Phelps is complete scum. The cheating on his wife, and hurting his children, with a German dope fiend and the various flashbacks you witness while playing solidified my mindset. I was glad he died come conclusion, and the 1 man he couldn't stand come midgame was giving a speech and offended his "squeeze".

Nah, those are a few of the reasons I actually liked Phelps.

The war I can understand to some degree. The battlefield is a harsh place, and horrible HORRIBLE things take place. The cheating on his wife with a German dope fiend I can't and won't understand. advltery is awful act and he got exactly what he deserved for doing it (i.e. scolding by fellow workers and the community, drowning death). Maybe if it was explained why exactly he cheated I would be more considerate, but it wasn't for some reason or another.

I preferred Phelps, he had his faults but he was still a good cop and never succumbed to the negative influences around him.Kelso was kind of a [censored] at first, plus calling every girl princess was creepy. In the end Phelps made up for all the things that made Kelso hate him by sacrificing his life so Kelso could live.

He succumbed to a German dope fiend and committed advltery, that's pretty negative.

You mean he helped a woman escape her drug addiction and found love outside a marriage that was almost non-existant in the narrative? Honestly when I watched the scene with him and his wife I thought she was being an ass. I had absolutely no reason to sympathize with the character while at the same time Elsa and Phelps seemed like they were meant for each other at the end.

Spoiler

The relationship between Elsa and Cole, pre-advltery, was also non-existent in the narrative. He met her once, questioned her, then had six with her? That must have been intense questioning (which it didn't seem like it in-game) and/or second love at first sight.

The development of Cole's feelings was implied from all the times he visited the club.

I think saying that everyone who made a mistake once should drown in a sewer is a bit much. Yeah, he made a mistake, and he was lead into it by Earle, but I think that if his wife accepted him again he would have stopped. Or maybe not, you can't be sure.

changing the protaganist before the end of the game? I didn't want to play as Jack Kelso. I liked Phelps, found him to be an interesting character and yet I'm running around as his plaid slathered Marine Corp buddy for the tail end of the game?
