Non-combat, character with an honest job

I just thought of Ysolda in Whiterun. Her quest required to gain favor with her is just to bring her a mammoth tusk she can trade to the Kahjiit caravans. You can buy or find one of those and bring it to her as a "dower". She has her own home which you can move into after marriage, but apparently she won't go into business for herself unless she's living in a player-owned house.

She'll ask you where to live. If you move in with her, she opens a shop. At least, it worked for me.

Ah! Maybe that was what I remembered reading somewhere.

I'm also in the process of making a new, non-combat character. I've tried every other form of combat, so I decided to make an adventuring alchemist, who tries to avoid danger. She'll defend herself with a dagger if she has to, but otherwise tries to avoid combat wherever possible. Especially with people, as she really does not want to kill anyone.
The fact she had to kill people to get out of Helgen really rather upsets her. Eventually she's going to hire a bodyguard so she doesn't have to be too afraid to stray too far from the paths, to get at the really good ingredients. And for Blackreach, to do the red nirnroot quest. I haven't had the chance to really do anything with her yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. Because I think it's going to be really refreshing to get out and explore with a purpose, rather than spending all my time in a dungeon.

I had an non-combat alchemist character once. just wanted to roam about, picking ingredients, not killing anything. By the time I had walked one circle around the map, i had killed about 100 wolves! glad i had my trusty little dagger with me lol

I have a feeling it will be the bears and tigers I have to watch out for, haha. Wolves are probably going to be a welcome break from the more nasty things! And my dagger is definitely going to get a workout.

Hmm. Have you tried simply letting Hadvar or Ralof do the killing? I haven't myself (as I'm pretty much a kill 'em first and then think up the questions sort of player) - but it does seem as if since the entire position of the game beginning is to get the Dragonborn up and running.... probably the NPCs can manage without you....

Oh I definitely tried that. But Hadvar was being stupid and kept doing nothing but blocking with no attacking, so I had to step in and off a few of them. :/

A build incorporating some of these ideas;

Well once you get your body guard hide and have him kill the enemies in the mines. Also not all mines have enemies in them so you could just mine in those ones. There's also but very few places you can mine in skyrim without going into mines/dungeons. One of them is an iron ore deposit a little southwest from Whiterun.

Also there's a farmer in Whiterun that will pay you 5g per cabbage/potato and he lets you farm from his farm.

What I would suggest to make it just that more challenging is to do the main quest line till the dragons start spawning. Have to rely on your body guard or town guards to protect you.
