Non-combat, character with an honest job

Are there any good sources of moon sugar? Can you make Skooma?

What are the most expensive potions you can make out of the most common ingredients?

The khajiit traders are the best source of moon sugar.

The most expensive potions made from common ingredients are those with 3-4 effects. Examples:

Wheat - BMF - lavender
Snowberries - Dragons Tongue - PMF
Blue Butterfly Wing - BMF - Snowberries

i kinda did the same with a character. I escaped Helgen with Ralof and became Hod's assistant at the lumber mill in Riverwood. However my backstory was that I was a mercenary crossing the border to become a sellsword in Skyrim. After Helgen I decided to just stay in Riverwood and settle down. Then I RP'd that my character decided to help out Lucan at the Riverwood Trader and do "one last job". so i did that :) Theres tons of things you can do when rping an NPC. Just because youre an NPC doesn't meant every now and then they stumble into a barrow and have to fight their way out, ;)

- When I have enough gold, hire a bodyguard for protection

My problem is that mining ore requires to delve through dangerous dungeons, and getting your own pelts require you to be a skilled hunter. Buying these things from vendors is far too expensive to earn money from it. I'm thinking firewood and alchemy is the way to go to earn money in the beginning. What do you guys think?

Actually there is a mine outside solitude, Rockwallow Mine, all you need to do to gain access is deliver a message from Pactur to Thane Bryling. No combat involved. It is an iron mine. This leaves leather as the issue.

Save dragon tongue, blue butterfly wings, and tundra cotton for fortify barter potions. These help a lot when buying crafting supplies.

Salt piles are great cuz they are common everywhere and can make slow + magicka regen potions for high $

Otherwise it depends on the region you are in when choosing common plants. Lots of common plants can do things like fortify carry weight, damage regen, paralysis, slow, and resist for high $. Some of the fortify skill effects like destruction have high sale values as well.

Laughing because now I HAVE seen everything. Cant believe someone would buy this game in order to role play the most boring role possible and only experience about 20% of the content
This is as wierd as the guy who wants to just explore Skyrim and never do a quest and just do whatever jumps infront of him as he goes along
No there is nothing wrong with it but its kind of like buying an iphone because you can play angry birds on it...or like buying a Ferrari because of the car stereo system.
I guess it didn't occur to you that I've already played this game for over fifty hours the ?normal? way. Neither will this be my final character. :)

Thanks, guys. I will create a female character, so I will marry a man.

Why not just play Sim City then?

Don't get me wrong, I understand some of us like to be play a game in different way, I also enjoy doing that. But this game provide too few option which "worth" doing that.

I only can think of fishing, firewood, gather ingredient and food, mine ore, become trader, blacksmith and alchemist. At least you can treat alchemist as herbalist.

What you're going to have to do is hire bodyguards from the bars to guard you and fight everything in the dungeons that have the ore you want to mine or the quest objective. You pretty much will have to rely on bodyguards, and if you arent restricted to not using restoration (RP purposes) then get the spell healing hands, thatway you can heal your bodyguard as they do all the fighting.

How are you going to survive with all those bandits and wild beasts out in the wild? Besides, this is Skyrim where every pretty maiden can swing a battle axe and children fight wolves with BARE HANDS!

As for mining, it brings in alot of gold, because the Blacksmith in each Orc Stronghold will by ALL your ore, automatically once you trigger the dialogue option. The only thing you have to do to gain access to the 4 mines at the Strongholds is one 'go get' quest. From memory, there is a bit of fighting, so you might want to hire a guard.

BTW, i think this is a fantastic idea. You should most definitely keep us updated on how it goes.

I feel insulted. Are you saying that fireball hurling mages and bow sniping specialists are not honest chaps earning a decent wage with our skills? This is outrageous! I demand an apology from your guild of Pacifist Snobs in bold, written on The Skyrim Times by tommorrow, or I'll start a campaign to raise taxes on your harvests by next month!

You could take the wagon to Markarth, Windhelm, and Solitude to mine the ore in the nearby mines. The one in Windhelm is "guarded" by orcs, but you should be able to enter it without any sort of fighting.

There are 2 mines inside Dawnstar that are enemy-free.

I understand that this is not for everyone, but why clutter up a thread with off-topic posts about what you think of this idea? Please create your own thread if you want to say what you think of this sort of gameplay, as this is the wrong thread for it. Random negativity is just annoying to read.

Thanks to all of you guys who are helping me out. Someone mentioned you can marry Khajiits, but I understood you couldn't? That Khajiit and Bosmer were the two races that didn't have any marriable NPCs? I have the strategy guide, so I will look it up, and decide my race from there. I'm thinking Imperial, but I will have to see what I end up going for.

Thanks for all the tips for mines without enemies, I will go through them. I might go through some mines when I have a bodyguard, it depends on how long and hard they are.

How about playing an Argonian fisherman. Just swim around the lakes of Riften catching fishes and selling them to shops. There's also a male Argonian you can marry

I think only fishing might be a bit boring in the long run. Thanks, though. I don't think I will use an Argonian for this. I will probably use a Breton, Imperial or Dunmer.

If your main ambition is being a trader who makes money then go for imperial as they find more gold where gold is found. If you dont like fighting or weapons then make money by making jewellery?

Hire mercs
Buy wardog
Explore more easily
Brew poisons to fight big baddies (ice trolls) while your squad kills it for you
Summon things to fight too
Conjure the bow to go hunting much more easily with infinite arrows

I have a character just like this. So. Much. fun. Granted I actually do use combat, however, I know that if I lowered the difficulty a bit, and only use a bow to apply my super poisons while my team kills for me, itd still be a blast being a hunter/merchant like I am. Speech is awesome to perk into man.

Nord, Farmer, Clothes or hide armor are ok, weapons are pickaxe and woodcutters axe, as you travel from farm to farm (not fast travelling), harvesting and selling all the vegetables, till they respawn, choping wood, cooking... speech, light armor, restoration (fit for a "man of the land type of character), maybe a little archery for the elk and deer

You could be an illusionist/enchanter.

Illusion doesn't require combat to level, and actually levels faster out of combat by casting muffle.

You wouldn't have to do any killing, you can get your opponents and your body guard to kill for you by casting frenzy then invisibility.

It's also fairly hilarious watching a conjurer try to kill his own summon, they usually get killed by it. Oh the irony! >:3

I made this thread with tips on being an enchanter merchant.

This is a great idea!

I did something similar in Oblivion but haven't yet tried it in Skyrim i think i will now.

Have you put any thought into what town you would live in because i'm pretty sure there are always farming jobs and mining jobs (etc) around.

Exactly, i tried playing a Hunter and even that got boring pretty fast.
Hunting is really fun in Skyrim!! I maxed my smithing level by hunting but I still do hunting/exploring/ingredients gathering trips just for fun ^^
The environment is breath taking and hunting with a low grade bow can be challenging :P
