Non magic characters (Viking build)

Post » Mon Nov 22, 2010 8:36 am

I really want to play this game as an awesome Viking... Quite muscular Nord with beard and long blond hair.
Dual wielding Short swords or axes, maybe sometimes a round shield. The armor i would like to use is leather and fur with bare arms and a helmet with badass horns...

The question is if this could be a viable character, or if he would be to weak because of the light armor...?
In my mind a viking does not use magic, so i would rather not go that direction... They also used mainly leather and fur as armor...

Any of you guys have experience with this kind of build that could give me a pointer to what i should expect?

Honestly none of us has any experience with this build as far as Skyrim is concerned. I imagine that Skyrim will be different enough from previous Elder Scrolls games that we will have to just see what works.

I say just play the game the way you want and you will enjoy it more!! :twirl:

Personally, I will play a female Nord, with dual daggers and light armor :D

To the OP it is called a Barbarian build and yes it is viable. Any build is easily playable I had a pure non combat build in Oblivion and I just grabbed any of the few companions I could to act as bodyguards.

Vikings would usually wear chainmail. They also threw javalins, used longswords and shields, and also weilded a great axe.
So light armour would make him more realistic(?) It would also make him more manueveralble, but we don't know how the game works. I wouldn't worry about it now. Wait until we get more info.

I'm quite sure that will be an easy build to make seeing as the Nords, at least in Oblivion, we very Scandinavian and lived in long houses.

I could go into history buff mode and give you an accurate description of what vikings would have worn if you want, but if not I'll try not to be that guy.

"and a helmet with badass horns..."

There is no evidence that Vikings ever wore helmets with horns in them.

Light armor, no armor, no worries.

Just rush up and kill them before they kill you.

Works rad for berserker types.

Ok. I can see the slightly heavier armor option... (If we become very history oriented there is also the fact that vikings almost never had horns on their helmets...)

Most important is: Killing things with the intention of causing maximum amount of pain and blood. And what about hand to hand combat... I would like to be able to rip my opponents head clean off his torso using just brute force... More blooooooood!!!!

The answer to that is that there is no such thing as a non-viable build in TES. Any build is your choice and it comes down to your skills and how you fight. If you fight with tactical prowess and dodge/block attacks with great dexterity on your part, then you can do it. It's as much a matter of how good your character is as it is how good you are. That's what makes TES so great, you won't go onto the internet and look up guides to the "best" builds for a character, because it just doesn't exist.

I plan to wear Heavy Armor as a Berserker.

In fact, I plan to look like http://hippiefreak12.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/kharnthebetrayerbk0.jpg.

And yes, I'm going to name my Character Kharn.

The only reason I don't plan on playing as a Viking is because I imagine running into a lot of other Vikings in Skyrim. The only thing Vikings have a weakness to is nonconformity. And Brits.
