(Non-MMO) TES MultiplayerCo-op Thread

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 11:27 am

I have noticed a lot of you guys say "If you don't want an MMO, then don't play it." What happens when ZeniMax and Bethesda stop making other ES games because of the MMO. Not playing the MMO won't matter. The creators will be focused on the MMO. We won't get the games we want. (the players who "just won't play the MMO.) It's going to end up like WoW. Not good. I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can use it 10 years from now when it starts to decline. This will lead to HUGE amount of people leaving the ranks of ES fans. I'm not going to argue or post anymore because you people will just find "reasons" for proving me wrong.

On this lasy note, ZeniMax, if you do make an MMO, please don't make it an ES game. Make it for Fallout?

I never play MMOs, but...

Elder Scrolls MMO = more money for Bethesda = bigger budget for Elder Scrolls VI

Bring it on.

Skyrim's budget = $100 million = open world RPG

Mass Effect 3's budget = $200 million = linear action game

Something is terribly wrong here.

Unfortunately, just because we give bethesda a bigger budget doesnt mean that the game will be better, because with ur example, ME3 had more money to use and because they had more money they tfied to please everyone in the easiest way possible. Hence why after so many petitions they are changing the ending.
The more money Bethesda makes, the more incline it is to try to satisfy every type of player out there even if this isnt theor genre. Ill stop rigjt there.

Me personally, I hope the tesmmo is a [censored] bang and that its an intelligent piece of work, ome were Bethesda would feel to up its game and not put out a halfway finished game.

Its more likely this will happen:

TES MMO = more money for the TES MMO = Why make a new game when we can just add another "expansion pack" with more of the same [censored] = bye bye singleplayer game.

MMO's destroy everything that makes gaming fun.

Bethesda Softworks still needs something to do...

In fact, you could say the same thing for IPs: Fallout 3 = more money for FO3 = why make a new TES if you can just make another FO game with the same [censored] = bye bye Elder Scrolls.

I don't think they should put in Co-op, but maybe multiplayer. There would be too many problems to have to solve to be able to make either work. There's leveling, loot, rendering (not too bad) that you would mainly have to worry about.
Rendering: If one person goes in a room, you would have to figure out what would happen with the other person: 1) Both players are sent inside no matter their locations (bad if your friend is all the way across the map doing something important). 2) Can't go in that room until the other player agrees (bad because sometimes the other player would be doing something completely different or not want to go in). 3) That player goes in but the other player doesn't (this would be worst in splitscreen because of the rendering. It would take longer and probably lag the other player. With multiplayer it might work). Not too big a deal for Bethesda to solve.
Leveling: This is going to be an issue because most of the time your friend won't be on with you, unless you make a special save for multiplaying only. And online, whose map would you use because both maps would be different in the aspects of who/what's dead and what missions have been done. If you are 30 levels higher than the other player, the other player may think it's not fair and not want to play with you. Plus you could easily kill them whenever you want (unless they make you invincible like children). And if they do make it so you can't kill them, you'll be killing all the creatures and the other player won't be able to level up. Another thing is creatures level with you, so the other player would find it really hard to kill, or you would find them too easy to kill (depending on if the animals follow the lower or higher level).
Loot: A lot of the time, you only find one of an epic item, and only one of you can have it. That's not really a problem for Bethesda, but it can be annoying when playing with a friend, escpecially online because a lot of the time you don't communicate with the other player so you don't know what they got or what they have that they aren't sharing.

There are a few other minor things, but I think it can easily raise issues that can be hard to solve, maybe impossible too. A minor issue would be incorporating the player into the campaign. This shouldn't be too hard, but would they have the Single player and Multiplayer plots be the same, or would they be different. If they're different, it's harder to do and you have more to do, so the campaign's will be shorter. If they are the same, in single player you will pretty much have to have a second person following you everywhere. I'm fine with that, but some people find it really annoying because they can get in the way. And since it's in the story mode, you can't kill the person or tell them to leave.

I'd love to see Co-op, but I don't think it's the most logical thing to do.
I think multiplayer would be cool... running around with your friends killing dragons. And if there is free PvP that would be cool too! I know it would be hard to make skyrim multiplayer but i think you might try to add a drop in drop out kind of engin.... there are people makeing multiplayer with the TES creation kit for skyrim.... there are alot of glitches nad such but i bet bethesda could make a very good multiplayer DLC for skyrim!!!!

Official Multiplayer Thread

A few reminders:
Also, please realize that adding multiplayer to Skyrim at this time is simply not feasible. Skyrim has been streamlined for single-player and adding multiplayer would require re-writing large portions of the engine. The devs would much rather spend their time and energy expanding on what they already have, a great single-player RPG, rather than re-doing what they've already finished.

So please, no requests to have multiplayer added with an expansion.

I wouldn't really like a multiplayer on Skyrim i mean it wouldn't be bad but i like the feeling of lone ranger if you get me.

I didn't read all the posts on this thread, so sorry if this is reiterating something someone already said:

If there's competetive multiplayer, it MUST be confined to something small, manageable and seperate, like the Arena.

I like the idea of Co-Op. You could do a classic dungeon delve experience with all the class roles filled out by different
party members. I just don't want them to add in game health bars, symbols, any of that stuff. Your PC companions should
look just like any other NPCs, and should be able to go off and wander and interact with the world as they please.

Discussion of multiplayer in future games, future multiplayer-focused games (i.e. the rumored MMO), multiplayer as related to TES in general.

An MMO may be a feasible, albeit very involved and humongously extensive project, considering that one TES game (Daggerfall) did not carry the in-game lore of the weight of prophecy to drive the storyline's focus on just a singular character, which seems to be a common point of contention of those who suggest otherwise. The concept from that game can be in a similar vein, where there are regions where one would choose their allegiance and build their character to the region they align themselves to. Imagine multiplayer quests to either be a part of an assassin group to kill a noble on one region on a certain day, or be part of that other region and be the defenders themselves, with set dates and times for the event. Perhaps questing for artifacts for that particular region or stealing from another who found one to increase their region's power level...

One TES mainstay I'm having trouble imagining being implemented properly in an TES MMO though would be skill advancement(not the process of increasing skills, but in their increment) and capping that... If a cap was implemented, eventually everyone has 100 Acrobatics, or if none... or characters with 47,712 Acrobatics can end up outjumping Tarhiel and live....

If you turn TES into a MMO, I'm afraid those little things that make TES so unique will be gone.
No more lifting weapons and whatever throwing it around or collecting books in a shelf.

TES could only work as a co-op.
If you want to stay true to the core of the game.

There has been an update.
Gameinformer will "unveill" it in their June edition as said in an article today.
Gonna be released 2013 and one line in the article made me laugh: "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

Sigh. I really hoped it wasn′t real. Let′s just hope for the best.

A teaser trailer and screenshot will be shown tomorrow too.

Go check the article at gameinformer

So this is not being worked on by the main BGS team? Hope this doesn't end up being a minute sized, inadequately thought out "all Tamriel" that sets the lore and province appearance for future games by the actual BGS studios making proper TES games.

IGN reported that The Elder Scrolls Online is real at: http://pc.ign.com/articles/122/1224248p1.html

It's their June coverstory and release is set for 2013. The story is set 1,000 years before the events of Skyrim and Oblivion.

I am surprised that this is occurring but I am very interested in seeing how this turns out.

Re-opening this thread here in the Elder Scrolls Series section as some folks may wish to discuss multiplayer features that are not related to the MMO, such as co-op play.

Note that if you wish to discuss the MMO, the Elder Scrolls Online forum section is http://www.gamesas.com/forum/190-elder-scrolls-online-general-discussion/
