Non-settlement bases?

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 4:12 am

I'm playing a Bourne esque character but I don't want a big place like a settlement to be my base. Are there any out there people like using? That bunker comes to mind with the crazy old guy inside that gives you Reba. But I want to know if there are any others people have found.

I use Homeplate in DC and the Red Rocket as my fortresses of solitude.

Also, there is that giant pyramid structure in the Glowing Sea that I have thought about trying to use if possible.

I used Home Plate as well, though, it svcks that you can't add any of the crafting stations inside. And it's not ideal if you're going for total isolation.

I'd be careful using random locations as a main base, I don't think there's a comprehensive list of safe, non-respawning locations.

The bunker you mentioned isnt quite safe because the interior resets as all other spawn locs do after some time passes.

Only non-settlement base that is safe i can think of so far would be the Diamond City house you can buy for 2k caps. It has a workbench but it is really not a settlement - cant lonk supply line, cant build any craft stations (without mods) inside, etc. it is as your OP describes - a home base but not really a settlement.

Roomy enough to store all your collectables, bobblehead stand, magazine stands, etc. but very compact and zero settlement headaches or management. My only issue with Home Plate is you cant send dogmeat or other companion to live there. Otherwise, for my current zero settlement playthrough , it has been a nice base.

Although i still do take over, but not populate with any settlers, one settlement so i can build full range of craft stations. I use red rocket fpr that.

Jaco's right - none of those locations are 'safe' for storage. Only Home Plate is 100% reliable.

I've often wanted to do a 'Nomad' playthrough, where I don't live anywhere and keep only what I can carry. Would be an interesting challenge.

Wouldn't Vault 111 work? Pretty sure nothing respawns or deletes. You'd be very limited though.

A lot of the settlements by the ocean on the west side of the map are pretty good.

Red Rocket and Taffigton Boathouse both come to mind as good spots for a single character to hold up and utilize as they see fit. Both are settlements and that way you don't have to worry about respawning, and both are relatively small

I would love a place where you can build a house without any pre-existing buildings extsting or being able to tear down all existing buildings.

I don't wanna build next to / on top of a red rocket station, I want to build in the plane wastelands.

Hangman's Alley. Nice central location, small, you can remove nearly all the existing structures, I thinking would suit a lone survivor quite nicely.

Hangman's Alley is fast becoming my favorite settlement, the strategic location in the center of the map can't be underestimated. I keep the population small, 2 for crops, 2 for defenses. Then I build vertically and have a nice little place above everyone else. Aesthetically, I love Taffington Boathouse which is also small. I just wish I could fix that hole in the roof.

You can also get assigned your own private room in Vault 81 if you save the kid. It even comes equipped with a bobblehead stand.

Airport Settlement is very small but you have to talk to Maxon first. In this Settlement you cant even place a Radio Beacon.

That's where I'm posted up in my current playthrough. It's great for a personal base. The hole in the roof is awful. I really wish there was a way to repair it. Also, I'm playing on console, I'd like to permanently get rid of that woman's dead body upstairs. I was able to work the two dead Brahmin off the property (they eventually just disappeared), but that damn body keeps returning. They should really add a way we can scrap scripted dead bodies on build locations (maybe into bones or something).

As someone who has been using only settlements as bases of operation (first red rocket, in-game weeks later sanctuary, in-game month later and still current base and storage area a month later) settlements are 100% reliable for storing items in.

kellogs place can be used, its safe storage the containers there don't respawn, also the "wherehouse in diamond city has one non respawnable locker, there's some others, i don't think the mayors office containers respawn.
