'Noob' in distress

Post » Mon Nov 09, 2009 9:31 am

Yeah, so I'm a 'noob' at the game, and usually I love it when games are challenging. But I can't kill three rats without dying. So can somebody please tell me how to get to the difficulty slider/options on xbox?

Are you playing Goty edition or are you playing the original game?

On Goty Edition go to the options menu I believe it is under preferences but on non GOTY there is no Difficulty slider.

If those three rats are the "Cave Rats" in the first Fighter's Guild mission, they're a bit tougher than your usual rat. One way to handle it is to go in, concentrate on killing ONE, then turn around and exit the room. After healing yourself back to top shape in the safety of the outer balcony, go back and finish off the other two. At Level 1 or 2, taking damage from all three at once is a bit brutal. It's also a lot easier if the weapon you're using matches your best weapons's skill (which hopefully is somewhere over 30, preferably 40+ if you're playing a FG mission), and you're wearing armor appropriate to your best armor skill.

Don't change the slider. Go kill some less tough enemies and build up your skills.

I've passed the rats but now everything's hard. There are no less tough enemies.

what are your weapon/armor skills?
train them a bit, gain a few levels and the game won't be as hard :)

Hang around Seyda Neen, there's plenty of easy targets in the Bitter Coast.

Well first of, Morrowind is almost a true roll playing game. It is based on stats, so we need to know how did you make your charcter? What is your major stats, what is your minor stats and what weapons are you using?

There is a green bar, it is your endurance. If you run your endurance goes down, this means you are getting tired. When tired, it's harder to swing and hit. While the graphics don't show this, that is your results. Is your green bar all the way down? If it is, you will fail almost all the time, casting magic or swinging weapons.

So please tell us, what is your character, what are your stats and what weapons you are using. Don't forget you are level 1. You svck at almost everthing. You have to build up your charcter.

Also if you are on the PC and still find it hard, put the difficulty slider down. If this doesn't work, use the console and hit the "~" key. Type in TGM and hit the "~" again and now you are invincible.

Hope to see what you stats are and what you do. Also do you have "Use best attack" on?

wouldn't use that, takes the fun out of the fights a bit (and you only see one animation all the time).
for the rest, yeah, all depends on how you built your character. is it a mage maybe? ;)

I disagree sure it looks repetitive. But it makes fights so much easier. It is very worth putting on especially if you are just atrting out.

I never put it on!

I dislike making games that are meant to give you a challenge easy, it takes fun out of the game and as previously said it takes animations out of the game...two bad things and I don't see a good side for anyone who wants to play the game without aid.

Use a bow and strafe kill stuff, make sure your fatigue isnt low, if it is killing stuff is a [censored]. Also get conjuration so you can summon meat shields and weapons. Use two-handed weapons also. I would recommend Heavy armour too first time round. Alchemy is also very useful for the health/fatigue potions, so pick up all the herbs you can.

get acrobats as one of your skills, its quick to level up so you can get some quick levels to begin with.

I found it helps to make either a short blade or marksman a major because they can be bought in Balmora and you have a decent chance of doing any damage to rats, mudcrabs, and those little worms. Another good idea is to pick an armor class and make that your major or minor. I've also learned that agility is your best friend early on. That, and endurance and luck.

help for new players -

Save often vardenvfell can be a dangerous place
try to pick up items that yu can sell and get scrolls summoning and potions healing and restore fatigue
speaking of fatigue, yu suffer BIG penalties if you have none, so running around and getting into fights without slowing down or eating some food can make yu die a lot.

ST
ps, once you get used to all the small things (like fatigue) that you have to deal with the game becomes easier. Not easy, but easier.

Don't you mean Bethesda's programming can be a dangerous place? :P Remember TES games are prone to crahes and freezes. :D

Save often, and have more than 3 saves per charcter.

Where is the OP? He hasn't come back so we can help him more.

Tell us, OP, what weapon skill is your major? Are you using weapons that fit under that major? How high is that skill? How high is its governing attribute?

This is important stuff. Many people find themselves not being able to kill stuff because they don't even realize they're not using weapons of their major. If your major skill is over 30 or so, you should hit decently often. Once it gets over 40, you should hit at least every third hit.
