It's too soon to start worrying about what's 'best'. Just enjoy the game; you'll learn a lot about it while playing. Your next character will inevitably be better.

I advise making a character of every race that you like, and playing each for a few hours. Find which race clicks for you. Don't worry about your class.

Yes, you got yourself a good character. In the long term picking Mage instead of Lady would have been better, but as a newbie you'll benefit more from the Lady's early game boosts.

It's rather hard to completly mess up your character anyway, especially in the long term. At level 25 and above you'll start finding magic items that are so powerful it becomes completly irrelevant what your race, class, and birthsign are. So my general advice is pick your race based on looks, not abilities. And for the first 15-20 levels you'll want to strongly focus on 2-4 of your major skills and let the others fall behind (by using them as little as possible).

Not bad, start being on the lookout for Dwarven armor. It should start appearing at your level.

Also, I recommend you buy the Flash Bolt spell.

Yes, upgrading your spells is important. And don't worry too much if the game gets hard around level 12, it gets hard for everyone at that level. But over the next 10 levels it will become easier again.

If you want to get really powerful quickly, practice Conjuration. It's a minor skill for you so you can increase it as much as you want without leveling up. And it goes up pretty fast as well. Fastest way to do it is to summon a Skeleton Minion and then repeatedly use Turn Undead on it.

Buy the summon zombie and scamp spells from the Chorrol mage guild. Also do the mage guild recommendation quests. Get Armorer to 50 asap so you can wear/repair magic gear. You can make Restore Magicka potions to help out with magic regen as needed.
