Noob Stealth Sniper Questions (2)

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 7:55 pm

Hi guys, I am only level 14 still and I have 2 question for you more experienced players. First is weapon choice. I am going with a high PER (8) and AG (7) build. So far the best sniping weapon I have is a modified pipe rifle orf sorts, fires .308 ammo and I got it a bit better. So my question is what base weapon should I start modifying when I find it? Hunter Rifle? Other?

Second question regards how to evolve in the quests I have to do. I have Minuteman stuff to do, but besides the Taking Independence quest they assign me to places which are really far and hard to get through, having to face Feral Ghouls in the open, Super Mutants and Radscorpions (fortunalety not Deathclaws!). I could also start the first BoS quest, but if it's like previouse Fallout games it might be the first of many and they tend to get really hard. Also there is the main quest, I have not yet visited Diamond City, although I am really close to it in the map.

I would like to know a route that allows me to score some exp and perhaps that base weapon for sniping, so I can evolve some perks a bit and get stronger, so I face the "big boys"?

Cheers

Hunting rifle, mod it until you got a sniper rifle. You gonna need the gun nut perk.

Just a note, the Hunting Rifle and Sniper Rifle deal the same amount of damage, shoot equally fast, and.. Well they're almost identical except just ONE thing, which is the range. Don't throw away a very well modded Hunting Rifle, if you can't make an even BETTER Sniper Rifle.

Another sniper based question, do silencers/suppressers really effect range that much? I can't make them yet, I'm not a high enough level for the required perk.

I would suggest a marksman assault rifle for mid range fighting. I am a sniper build myself. I use a sniper for long range, assault dot sight for medium range and combat shotgun for short range.

Suppressors do effect range. But it isn't that bad. Also, you will need more then GutNut1 to upgrade fully. You will also need Science for the higher mods.

I carried a hunting rifle that I kept modding until level 20 or so. No I'm using a sniper rifle that I'm continuing to mod. Also, there are some nice pistols that do good snipe damage. And get a shotgun or something for close range. The mobs will close on you.

My understanding is that there is no base "Sniper Rifle". Instead, if you mod a Hunting Rifle fully, it's name actually changes to "Sniper Rifle". So telling him to keep the Hunting Rifle until he can get a Sniper Rifle is kind of pointless, as he can mod the Hunting Rifle so that it becomes a Sniper Rifle.

It'll become a Sniper Hunting Rifle

There is in fact a weapon named simply Sniper Rifle.

And adding to the thread, if you're going for the perk which increases single-shot rifle ammo, please note that Shotguns are counted in this category! - So feel free to go shotgun amock! :D

Thanks a lot for the inputs guys! I am slowly progressing, semi sniper and semi close range for now. I am only really mad at the game for not letting me pursue that stupid Silver Shroud quest. Just because after the second kill I had to make I do not have the option to leave the silly card on the vic. The first one was ok, but now I do not have the option at all. I cannot drop the card or transfer it to the corpse. Stuck and hating the fact that I am leaving a side quest undone! A bit OCD here, I know...:-)

Not in my game. I have a weapon that started as a Short Hunting Rifle, but I gave it a Long Light barrel and it became a Sniper Rifle. If I'd stuck with a Short Barrel or a Short Light barrel, then it would have stayed as a Hunting Rifle, but Long Barrels make it a Sniper Rifle. The same applies to the scope: if I use Standard or Glow sights, it remains a Hunting Rifle, but if I use any sort of Scope, it becomes a Aniper Rifle. Nothing I do changes it to a Sniper Hunting Rifle.

Have you checked the mods on your Sniper Rifle to see how the lower mods change the name? Because you may have found a weapon with the right mods to make it a Sniper Rifle, but if you start dropping things down to Standard, it will become a Hunting Rifle.

It's dangerous to go alone. Take these:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=554880136
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=554880232

:P

The first two started out as a short hunting rifle, just need the Gun Nut level 2 perk.

And adhesive. So much adhesive :shakehead:

Good to know! I'll ditch my combat rifle and modify a combat shotgun. I'm thinking "Berserker" :hehe:

The first one is pretty much what I'm going for, though I'd be getting a Long Scope and a Large Quick Reload magazine (though it sounds like you also want those, so...). I'm wary of swapping over to the .50 Caliber action, as I don't know how common that ammo type is. I personally haven't found any yet, but I'm still only at Level 8 (I restart a lot), so that doesn't mean much.

I found a rifle called "Sniper Rifle". It replaced my rifle because it had the mods I was about to place on my hunting rifle. And why waste the mats, right? And it does look different.

It is rare and expensive, that's why i have both of those. The .50 i spend only on higher ranked Super Mutants and other tough enemies.

And that's fine. However, you were making it sound like there was a completely different base weapon called "Sniper Rifle". If he comes across a "Sniper Rifle", then by all means he should use that instead and save the materials. But if he doesn't, then he can upgrade his existing Hunting Rifle to a Sniper Rifle. Because you were making it sound like there was a completely different base weapon type, he might have decided not to waste materials on his Hunting Rifle while waiting for a new weapon that he was never going to get. That's why I was being nit-picky.

And yes, the weapon does look different. The Marksman's Stock for the Hunting Rifle changes the look of the weapon completely.
