Noobish question about potions....

Do potions 'stack' in this game? Like if I take 2 bargain health potions at once (ie without closing menu) do I get double the amount of healing than if I just took 1 potion?

Bit of a noob question but I've never actually noticed.

Potions that boost stats dont stack.

Ex.

You take 2 potions to increase strength vy 10 points. it will only increase it by 10. health, magicka, and fatigue pots do indeed stack.

Self made fortify attribute potions do indeed stack. At least fortify intelligence do. Some people use this technique to make so called "super potions". I'm pretty sure other fortify attribute potions will stack as well.

I was under the impression that the effects of two identical potions with "duration" wouldn't stack (the later one would "replace" the first, so you'll get the full duration of the lastest), but they would stack in inventory. If you make a bunch of potions in a row, the ones near the beginning will often have slightly lower stats than the ones made later, due to skill improvements (sometimes only the cost will show the increase), and those different subtle variations will allow you to stack them for effect, but NOT stack in inventory. The normal "cheat" is to make one potion or enchanted trinket, use it, and utilize the improved stats to make a stronger one, not to make and take multiples at once. Then again, that's cheating, and there's really no need to cheat to become overpowered, since it eventually happens anyway, even when you're actively trying to delay it.

I don't use fortify skill/attribute very much because too much can easily break your game by making combat trivial, but I recall taking more than one fortify intelligence potion at once and having the effects stack rather than replace each other. But has been a while. I checked the UESP, and the UESP alchemy page says they stack but is admittingly a bit ambiguous about what that means. Here is a website (http://morrowind.melian.cc/alchemy_faq.php) that straight up says

It's apparent that some things DO stack, and other things DON'T, but what distinguishes them is something that I haven't spent the time or attention to examine. I've seen a couple of effects essentially reset the counter, with no boost in effect (Levitate is one example), and others gave me double the effect. Since I generally don't stack potions, tend to use alchemy sparingly, and have only done the "serious alchemy abuse" thing in one game just to see what it could do, I'm not familiar enough with it to venture more than a few semi-edjumacated guesses.

The wiki quote about all Fortify and Restore Attribute effects stacking is certainly a big step toward understanding its limits.
