A Nord by any other name...

After nearly two years without playing Morrowind, yesterday I completed all the tweaks/changes I wanted to mod in (for now) and started a new character. But something was amiss: I felt like starting a Female Nord (I never pick Nord), who would use a mace and shield combo (I never cared for either of those before) and wear medium armor (I don't use Medium armor, as I find it suboptimal). Those choices are what felt right for that character at that moment, which is strange for a half powergamer like me who usually min/max and choose by the numbers.

I continued until it was time to name my character's custom class. But then I thought "She doesn't belong to any class in particular, she's just... a daughter of the north." Those words rang so true and fitting that instead of giving her a class, I gave her a title or more like a nickname, one of a stranger in a foreign land. As for the class description, what I usually do is that I briefly describe the class main strengths within one or two lines. I settled on doing just that for this character, but as I finished typing the description I realized two things: 1- Half an hour had flown by. 2- It wasn't a class description anymore, it was now a background story. For those curious enough to read it, look in the spoiler below.

Spoiler
In the lands of Skyrim, the children are raised to survive the harsh conditions and embrace the glory of battle. Shayla was no exception, although her mother did taught her the basics of restoration magic, despite her father's disapproval. And even though she excelled at mace wielding, he insisted that she learn at least some hand-to-hand fighting techniques.

Years have passed since then and the now grown up Daughter of the North decided it's finally time for her to leave her dear home behind and seek out her destiny. After hearing of a settlement in need of mercenaries on a small island near Vvardenfel, Shayla took the first ship sailing for Morrowind.

So, as a result I ended up adding Restoration plus Hand-to-hand to her skills... which my powergamer side says is completely non-optimal for a Nord with no race bonus in those skills and a meager mana pool. :P As I finally began the adventures of my newest character, I chuckled when an npc called her by her nickname, but most of all, I simply smiled when I read the name of the single restoration spell she was given: "Mother's Kiss".

Anyway, that was my experience of a chargen strangely different from the previous ones that I wanted to share with you guys. I hope I didn't bore you to death. :)

That sounds like a really fun character to play! I think naming your class is probably the hardest part of morrowind. Curious, what factions will she join?

Honestly, for the first time ever, I don't know. For now, she's going toward Dulsya Isle. What happens there might influence heavily on the course of events. Getting work at the colony of Raven Rock is a more long-term goal but I think she's not experienced enough to even survive there yet. So until she's ready, mercenary work will do. I guess the Fighter's Guild would fit the bill... if she doesn't punch Eydis Fire-Eye in the face.
