Nord Archer - Aim

Hey all,

This glorious game has pulled me back in yet again. Looks like I'm preaching to the choir, the community here seems as healthy as it ever was.

So I've done a few searches and haven't been able to find an answer to my question. Why does the Nord's aim seem to be off with a bow? Specifically in the vertical.

I have always played with marksman as a main in the past. However, I've almost exclusively played as a dark elf or wood elf. The aiming in this game has always had a bit of a "feel" to it, the arrow doesn't always hit the center of the crosshairs. I always seemed to aim a bit to the right to score a square hit, and would adjust for drop on the longer shots. For me, it adds to the charm of the game.

I decided on a Nord for a change of pace this time. In a nutshell, if the target is above me I have to aim low and if the target is below me I have to aim high. And not just a little. It's very counter-intuitive.

Skill is at ~35, shots are taken at full stamina in first person. Game is vanilla with the expansions.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on a fix? I play a "dead is dead" style gameplay and missing clean shots is no good!

Thanks!

It has to do with the height of your character. The aim of taller races is off in this game. Some people believe the weight of the character also has an effect but I'm not sure this has ever been proven.

If you are on PC believe this glitch has been fixed by the Code Patch.

Yes, Pseron has it right. If you play a tall character (Nord, Imperial, Altmer, Orc), they will experience arrow aim problems when firing at targets on a higher or lower elevation than the shooter. If you shoot at a target higher up than you, the arrow will "bend" its flight downward in mid-course, so you need to aim slightly above them to compensate for the drop. If you fire at a target below you, the arrow flight will actually bend upwards.

Either you need to manually compensate for the error, or use the Morrowind Code Patch to remove it. It's not a game-breaker if you understand it, and I had one Imperial Archer become ridiculously overpowered long before the MCP was available, sniping targets out to the limits of sight. Now, with the MCP, it feels weird to actually aim directly at my target.

Thanks guys, I am on PC and will give the MCP a try, cheers.
