Nord, Breton, Imperial too similar looking?

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 12:05 am

Ok ummm nords are paler bretons have a slight tan and imperials are hispanic looking

I assume you mean hispanic in the "Old World" sense...?

I recall when I was in the military in Southeast Asia, after a little time, and with pointers from a friend, an American Chinese from San Francisco, I was able to determine the nationality of many Asians. That skill has wained over the years, however, but it can be done. Sometimes the differences are subtle. But when those subtlies are known, the result is easy to observe, in most cases.

Bretons: light skin, kind face
Nords: rougher and bigger look of Bretons
Imperials: darker skin, a bit meaner face

Nords imo look the most distinct out of the 3 because of their macho face structure. Between imperials and bretons, the only difference I can find are skin complexion (which is in some cases too subtle) and that imperials look a bit more "rugged" (which can also be subtle)
I hope bethesda keeps all their npc's in line with their race traits and doesn't start making light-skinned imperials and dark-skinned bretons

Awesome, great idea. I look forward to the Nord one.

@AmauriPavao,

Looking forward to seeing the Nords in the comp. shots. It seems that the Breton's faces, esp. chees and jaw are slightly more round than those of the Imperials in the images.

Sorry for the lack of detail in the Nords, their preset was smaller than the ones of the Bretons and Imperials. That's why they seem a little bigger or out of place sometimes.

I'm hoping that with accents mixed in, that we will be able to tell them apart fairly easily. My character will have a grudge against the Imperials. I don't want to confuse a Breton for one.

Judging on art-style and presets, since charcustomization can change anythiiiing, what hlvr said.

bretons: softer, rosier. No jawbone action. Rather small.
imperials: very angular. tanned. The presets have lol typo "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
Nords: paler and massive. blocky.

MASSIVE. Look at that bone structure! broad chins, square jaws
Look at that chin
Those powerful chins
Imagine how women the Nords have gotten with that chin? that's not even counting the male nord presets

----
edit, my nitpick is telling the wood elves apart, aside from each elf being color-coded. I guess they are more feral. Fox-like. Huge black eyes. That's all I can tell tho.

Looking at this confirms my suspicions. There's no way I'll be able to tell some of them apart. Look at row two for both the female and male races. Especially for the men.

Male Bretons have the thinnest noses. Imperials have darker skin, and all Imperial male presets have moustaches.

Don't play in third person then and there are differences.

Ah, now I can see the differences far better. They're actually easier to differentiate than I thought, thankfully, though some of the differences are very subtle.

That's about as different as you can get whilst still keeping them as they look in lore. And for the most part, they just have the same hair style.

I'd make the Imperials look east asian. It brings in a larger market if people want a character that looks like themselves.

East Asians want everything but a character with small eyes and yellow-ish skin. (If Anime and JRPG is anything to go from)

At least the stereotypical East Asian Gamer.

Bretons are Irish.

Imperials are Italian.

Nords are Swedish.

Actually, the Bretons are French, and the Imperials are from the Roman Empire. Just look at their names.

The best TES Asian looking character I can recall was in Morrowind, as a modded female Wood Elf.

OPINION:

First, thaks for providing the comp. shots.

Well, knowing that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, her is what I beheld, lol...

From my perspective, the overall best looking race shown in this thread are the Nords, with the Bretons seemingly looking the most aristocratic.

That said, I do have plans for a beautiful Imperial female Bard character. I am also going to have a comely Redguard woman.

My Nord male will be a rotund Friar type,

My elf type will be a female Altmer

Thanks again for the comparisons.
