Nord, Breton, Imperial too similar looking?

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 7:35 am

I was looking through the preset pics of the races for the hundredth time and I noticed that I'm having trouble telling the Nords, Bretons, and Imperials apart. Does anyone else share this concern? What tips do you use to tell them apart because I just can't.

The Nords are not a problem, but the Bretons and Imperials are a bit too similar. In game Nord will be taller...

opening your eyes might help...

Nords are more rugged and robust.
Bretons have more rounder heads, and they seem overall smaller.
Imperials are in between with a darker complexion.

I don't have a problem with it to be honest. I think bethesda has done a sterling job on the looks of the races.

I've had the same problem since I started with TES. They're pretty indistinguishable in my opinion, though I found it much easier to tell the difference between them based on their bodies. Don't worry, they're probably supposed to look very similar with them being three of the four human races so we won't be the only ones.

Actually looking at the pictures, the Breton ears are either the same or less pointed than Nords and Imperial ears.

I see what your talking about though you need to think of it as like a European to an American as people from each area look similar, but have minor differences. But for a tip to tell them apart they will have different accents from each race

I really can't tell the difference from the pictures available so far. I think the Imperials are a little more swarthy. As I look closer, I think maybe the Breton noses are generally a little smaller. But, you're right. They are all so very close. The slight differences I can detect can, I expect, be cancelled out by appearance sliders.

Both helpful and polite... You sir, are a true gentleman.

On topic, I have no problem telling the races apart when I look at the ingame screenshots, but now that you mention it... The presets do look abit similar. It might just be to do with the lighting and things though, I'm sure it will be more noticable in game.

Yea good point. Could I make a Breton look like a Nord by maxing out the sliders on the nose and head shape? hmmm...

They don't look that pointed.. maybe just slightly more angular... by like 5 degrees.

Also, I hope all that dirt on the mens faces is optional.

They are all humanbased races, what exactly were you hoping for? Perhaps the OP could explain what he would have done to make them more distinctive, because I seriously wouldn't know. The differences are subtile, just like a scandinavian person isn't that different from a mediteranean person except for maybe the skintone and haircolor.

The Imperials have very sharp features (look at their noses) While bretons have more rounded features and dark hair. Nords have a fair complexion, usually light-colored hair, and more robust featues. Also, you may be able to tell them apart from their accents?

@AmauriPavao,

Looking forward to seeing the Nords in the comp. shots. It seems that the Breton's faces, esp. chees and jaw are slightly more round than those of the Imperials in the images.

@ All,

Lore correct, or not, it may have been fun for the Bretons to have very slightly pointed ears, even though they are considered human.

If the Character Creation system allows such, I may give my Bretons a very slight point to their ears.

You bring up a great point, how much different can you make human based races? I certainly wouldn't even know where to begin. I love all the presets, I think they did an amazing job. This post is more or less just me wanting to figure out how to tell the humanbased races apart for the sake of role playing.

All caucasian men as well. I think that they look pretty good and I do see some differences, they just aren't huge differences.
