Nord Names

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:19 am

So, i was originaly going to call my nord ass kicker Arius Drekkar, then i caught myself: Oh wait, thats an Imperial name. So, i made this post so people can fling around Nordic names. There usualy something vikingny like Olgar, and followed by a title, like the-hungry. Bonus points if the name is tied into an old real world language. Heres hoping this post won't be buried. Cheers mates! :foodndrink:

May I suggest http://www.silgrad.com/oblivion/rangen/ site for a starting point in finding a name for the various races of Tamriel.

And remember, not all Nords have a title such as "the Ugly" or something like that.

Acutally, myth may not be the best choice. Half the time you end up getting Odin or Loki or Thor or something.

But the right title can make a "meh" character soooo much more interesting. "Oleif" is okay, but "Oleif the Bellicose" rocks. :D

Any Norwegian name will do really, just google Norwegian names and pick stuff you like. You can never go wrong with a name like Bj?rn (Or Bjorn as you would spell it) which means Bear for example, anything like that will work.

This wikipedia article lists old norse norwegian names.

http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategori:Navn_med_norr%C3%B8n_opprinnelse

Names with the ending "a", "bj?rg", "laug", "rid". "hild", "ny", "un" and "veig" are usually female names. The rest are usually male. Making new, but norse sounding names, you could simply take the ending, and infront put something else.

Example: Solveig, has the veig ending and is a female name. Removing Sol (meaning sun) and adding Ran, Ol or whatever, makes a new female name like Ranveig.

The same for male names. A lot of male names ends with "bj?rn" (beorn, meaning bear) or "ar" (a shortening of harjar/ warrior). Torbj?rn minus "Tor" adding for instance Finn, makes Finnbj?rn or Finnbeorn (meaning the finnish bear). Agnar, removing "Agn" and adding "Stein" (Stone) makes the name Steinar meaning Stone Warrior. Or you can but the to endings together making Bj?rnar (Beornar) a common norwegian name, meaning Bear Warrior.

Ieunn Frigg

From that site:- In Norse mythology Ieunn was the goddess of spring and immortality whose responsibility it was to guard the gods' apples of youth.

Thanks for the link 3-26

I just started a new game in Morrowind as a female Nord named Skjorta the Fair.

She might make a comeback in Skyrim.

They really need to allow use of ?, ?, ?, ? and ? in your name in Skyrim.

(I hope I didn't forget any letters, my scandinavian brethren)
