How to play as a viking:
-No double sided battle axes. Vikings didnt use them. No one actually used them for combat. Vikings primarly used axes and swords, twohanded and onehanded, some berserkers dual wielded, some huscarls used shields.
-You dont wear heavy armor. Chainmail and leather are the vikings best friends.
-You have a beard. If you dont have a beard, call yourself 'baby knight of harmless' or something, but not viking.
-You dont have black hair, dark brown eyes or green eyes. You also dont have dreadlocks or mohawk.
-You are not 'good' or 'evil', you are neutral. You dislike that village with the cowards? Pillage and [censored]. You like that guy who lost his daughter? Help him.
-Magic is for cowards, staffs are okay
-you are a strong, beatiful norse viking and you dont need no girl
-Honor. You dont steal things from people you are friends with, you dont do stealth stuff like a coward, you always fight fair (punching people in the face is fair, running away and drinking potions is not)
I know its TES and not real life, but I just find it fun to play as a viking or legionary soldier like he was in real life (okay maybe a bit tweaked).
You forgot to mention that Vikings used spears a lot to, though not many people know that. It was because it was easy to make, but still effective. And as stated before, there werent just "some huscarls" that used shields, there were many that did, not only huscarls, though they often could afford larger and better shieds. Also, Berserkers were the ones who ate mushroom before they enterd battle, to get a high. This was called Berserkergang, and thats what made them so fearless, and feared by their enemies. And yes, they commonly used 2h weapons. Huscarls were also the most common to use the chainmail, as a huscarls is a more wealthier viking, than the common ones. Huscarls were also commonly seen side by side with a king, chieftain or someone of a high rank, and served as a bodyguard.
Vikings shouldn't just be asociated with plundering and pillaging, even though they did that a lot too. They were great explorers and traders too, even though thats not what most people connect vikings with.
ut ofc, you are right in what your saying, just wanted to get as much facts on the table as possible ^^
PS: For those people who thinks all vikings wandered around in horned helmets... They didnt. That is just a myth, or a fiction, and not true. The most commonly used helmets were off the nastral helmet type. A helmet that coverd ones head and possibbly neck, with a nose guard.
