Nordic Tongues

I read the Ingame book "Children of the Sky", and this prospect of Nords being able to use their voice as weapons is quite fascinating. And so I thought, wouldn't it be cool if we could actually learn to do this in TESV? This power called Thu-um would be an excellent item for a Main Questline in a game set in Skyrim, where the player would go to High Hrothgar to learn the power from the Greybeards.

What I've been dying to see is more Lore on the Nords, about their society, cities, and culture, and even more history, and this seems like the perfect opportunity to expand upon it.

I'd say we shouldn't. The Greybeards are all pacifists, so if you learn Thu'um, you will have to be gagged for your entire life, you can't speak (you'll kill people saying 'hi'), you are not allowed to use your voice as a weapon, and it's a gift only to the nords.

But going to Skyrim, yes.

Having some sort of sonic burst ability would be pretty cool, for nords specifically.
Perhaps some sort of silence in a cone in front of the caster, once per day.

Powers in general need to be made better. It's like

ORC BERSERK - lifts hand and it lights up a bit
Imperial Voice of the Emperor - lifts hand and it lights up a bit

I mean what the hell. Berserk should be initiated with a blood fueled battle cry followed by a powerful charge, not a wimpy spell cast which is the same as something that raises your friggin speechcraft skill

It needs more... personality

This hand of mine glows with an awesome power!
Its burning grip tells me to defeat you!
Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow!
VOOOOOOOICE OF THE EMPEROOOOOOOR!

The Thu-um could be used by NPC's, but it is simply to awesome for us to have it. Only weak tounges can control the power.

I say let us have it.

If you didn't make a Nord then too bad. Also, maybe there are penalties for having it like being a Vampire or Werewolf.

It's unique. I think there should be more things like this.
