Nordic view on Bretons?

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:28 am

iirc Some Nords procreated with the Altmer to make the Breton

Nords dont like mer and vice versa

So wouldnt the Nordic view of Bretons be one of shame and disgust, so much so that Bretons would be hated 2nd most only to the mer?

p.s. If Bretons dont have claws, can we get them modded in please. Imagine seeing the sway of your magic fingers, yet they are longer, claw-like :D

I'll bet there's going to be a quest involving a naked Nord and a Breton witch in this game as well

I think it was the Nedes, the ancestors of the Nords and Imperials.

Nords mistrust Bretons and their tricksy ways. I doubt Nords are breeding purists, but bretons will likely get stereotyped and mistreated as effeminate deceivers.

i dont see why they'd just randomly make all nords hate bretons all of a sudden.

Where something like this would apply I think your reading into the lore a bit to much and it's not your fault though it's them for not implementing more lore :/

Ok, so Nedes must not of shared the same views as Nords on Altmer

Breeding purists, no. But to breed with an elf? surely not! But again, Nedes

Yea, i've never seen it either, which made me curious since Bretons share the blood of both Nords and Altmer (brother & enemy)

There was a period in history where there was co-existance between Nedes and Mer, during this time some crossbreeding went on and created Half-elves, which in time, due to half elves breeding with Nedes evolved into what wee see as Bretons. Several events split the Mer into several different races (four of which, Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer and Orcs) and men into two different races (Nords and Imperials).

Redguards, although offiicially classed as a Man race, were from a different part of Nirn and have nothing to do with Nede's.

Am I right, just want to clear this up?

Nords view Bretons as weak, effeminate and devious, not to be trusted.

For the most part you're right. Redguard aren't completely removed from the other races of man though. All Mer(including Khajiit, who were turned catlike by Azura) descended from Old Ehlnofey and all men(Nord,Imperial,Redguard, and partially Breton) descended from the Wandering Ehlnofey. Argonians were created by the Hist, sentient trees that are the only lifeforms that didn't descend from the Ehlnofey.

EDIT: Although its not totally clear how the Bretons became like they are now. Usually when races mix the offspring takes the mothers race, but it can be assumed that if mixing continues for long enough, like with the Bretons, that the line become more blurred, and a true mix occurs.

I'm in the mind of thinking that the only race that the Nords would truly respect would be Redguards. For the fact that they are 1) not Elves or Mer, 2) not magic folk and 3) are talented fighters, although not as strong.

I would say that Redguards would be the most welcome race in Skyrim.

I think if thats the case Orcs and Redguards would get along with the Nords as well of imperials
and the Nords would hate the beast races as well but not as much as they hate elves

Doesn't each race 'dislike' the other one way or another? Every race is proud of themselves, it makes sense. So, the Nord only really like their own kinsmen.

Yes and they interbreeded with the Aldmer, who were ancestors of Dwemer, Dunmer, Orsimer, Chimer, Bosmer, Ayelid and Altmer

Bretons were early Nedes from High Rock who breed with the Direnni Altmer and Atmoran slaves from Skyrim. Bretons have more human blood than mer blood and are commonly considered humans.

After The War of the Bend'r-mahk? No no no, The city-state of Dragonstar is separated between west and east and each has their own government and few days go by without terror by one resistance group or another. The Nords will most likely jeer over the Redguards defeat and if the Bretons are treated with disdain, its not for their lineage, its for the recent war with Skyrim.

I thought when Men and Mer mated, the child took the mother's race. How would a new race come about? Also, if the Altmer and the Nords/Nedes breeded, shouldn't their children be tall? They are some of the tallest races after all.

Reaching far back into the past, as indicated in posts above, my impression has always been that the Nords and Bretons share some ancient blood ties, however, we are told that they have completely different cultures.

That said, It seems that with the shared (blood) heredity, and shared borders between Skyrim and High Rock, that some mingling of culturial influence could eventually occur, especially in the border areas.

Resultantly, a charcter like my first player character, a Breton character brought up, either in, or very familiar with Nord culture.

This is an interesting topic.

Edit: Add comment.

I'm really anxious to see how the Bretons look now that the races have been revamped, I never really felt as though I wanted to play as one in Ob however.
