Nords vs Dunmer

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:01 am

Some of you may recall that i made a poll concerning these two races many months ago. But this is on a personal level. I'm torn between the two for my primary character. Should i be a hard hitting bad ass that fits the setting well (similar to dude in trailer), or a calmer, cool foreigner from a destroyed land (loosely like this guy: http://i.neoseeker.com/ca/borderlands_conceptart_fpX9x.jpg). I already have names settled depending on which i choose: Aaros Indoran or Aeiron. Guys, please help me out. And yes, i know i can make multiple characters, and apart from my traditional joke character Nijeh-Kitteh, i really just like to focus on one. Thoughts?

I suggest a Dunmer (little biased) because they are a better all-rouder race. Nords are primarily a warrior race, whereas Dunmer were made for warriors, mages or thieves and can settle into any role nicely. Also, love the Indoril-like name you chose for your Dunmer (Indoril are the best!)

Not sure if I've ever played a Nord. Not sure if I ever will (same goes for Imperial, Argonian, Khajiit, and Altmer). I've only had 1 Redguard character and he was a H2H guy for kicks. All of my serious character types are in my sig

(Very very biased also.) Just don't like Dunmer too.

Any race can play any role. The race bonuses in MW and OB didn't make it impossible to play an Imperial mage or an Orc assassin. :P

To OP: Decide yourself! Don't let us do it for you. It would svck if the forum made me decide playing Nord first even though I don't want to. :)

Why not do both at the same time? Just have one be a friendly good character and the other be evil.

You should have a balanced diet and sleep 8h a day.

Btw, i love Donnie Darko, so I'll help you out.

Nords eat Dunmers for Breakfast!!

go with nord for your first one so you can feel the full affect of the nordic game style. Then your second one be the dunmer and use your foreigner from a destroyed land story line?

Nord. This is Skyrim, the land of the Nords. Lore-wise, there's no better fit than a Nord as the main character. Even you said it fits the setting well. The choice is easy, in my opinion.

I say Nord. They are beat sticks that fall into any role. And their starting stats are great for building up a little chump change.

I don't like Dunmer. They're racist as hell.

So, uh, Nord I suppose. :whistling:

I think I'll try Dunmer the first time around as this was my main Oblivion character. Like someone else said, 'fire resistence' is key when you fight dragons.
If the game is worthy of a second play through then I'll go for Nord.

Bearded Nord.

Dunmer can't have manly beards, they can only have stylish goatees and other such things.

Unfortunately due to their inferior beard size they will not be respected by dragons on the same level as the nord-master-race. I'll be riding dragons before the week is out and you'll be pickup up the ashes of your crushed livelihood on vvardenfell hahahahaha

I don't even care what character I'm going to play in a game that won't even be released for another seven months.

Assuming we have the same character customization abilities as Oblivion (or roughly) play as a blue/black-skinned Nord. It's like getting the best of both worlds. Actually, it's really just getting a Nord that stands out.

Truth be told, the title character should have blue/black skin after getting scorched by that dragon in the trailer. :flamethrower:

I think a Dunmer's kick ass goatee can suffice.

I think a Dunmer's kick ass goatee can suffice.

Quite, considering how Mordecai (the concept guy's name, in case you didn't know already) here is shown with one. I'll also point out that he's on the slender side; in real life, I would equate him to be of a more agile and limber build. His voice is, more or less, smooth and suave, not very much like the gruff and boisterous image of a Nord. Also, the lenses of his goggles are tinted red. And he has a pet bird, which you should substitute with a miniature cliff racer.

In short, if you want to stick with the concept as closely as possible, I'd go with Dunmer. They're very good statwise for a Hunter archetype too.
