Northern Skies

My first attempt at a fan fic. I know it's not good, but I'm only doing it for fun. I will update when I have time, which won't be too often. Enjoy the read, criticize harshly, and laugh at my writing skills.

Northern Skies

Introduction

The Second Battle of the Hoover Dam did not fare well for Caesar's Legion. Much to Caesars dismay, the courier, known as Michael Mays, sided with the North California Republic during the battle. Michael Mays convinced The Boomers and The Great Khans that Caesar's Legion would only cause the Mojave Wasteland more trouble than good. Caesar was enraged by this outcome. Instead of retreating with his forces and planning a later assault, Caesar demanded his Legate make a frontal assault on the Dam before the NCR could acquaint with their new allies.

On that fateful day, hundreds and hundreds of Caesar's soldiers stormed across the Dam, catching the NCR in a moment of sheer suprise. Although the Legion had the upper hand for the beginning of the battle, it did not take long for the NCR to organize and mount a counter attack, forcing the Legion all the way back to the camp from which they came. Despite fierce fighting from the Legion, the camp fell several days later. Legate Lanius, along with about a hundred other soldiers fled to the fort, were Caesar met them with a hail of bullets and gunfire. This proved costly for Caesar.

When the NCR heard about the Legate's death, they decided to commit to a frontal assault themselves. The Boomers bombarded the Fort day and night, and the Great Khans destroyed Cottonwood Cove, assuring no supplies would be transported to the Legion. Five days after the bombardment began, well over half of Caesars forces were dead or dying. Finally, after nine days of bombardment, the Legion fled to Flagstaff, beaten and bruised. It was a massive victory for the NCR. President Kimball himself visited Camp Mcarran, congratulating the general on a job well done.

In the following weeks, the NCR colonized many of the settlements outside of New Vegas. They instituted law and government, peace and tranquility. The Mojave Wasteland was finally growing, surviving, even thriving. New Vegas itself flourished in the limelight. Mr. House disbanded the securitrons in favor of the NCR soldiers, realizing that these men would be positive role models for the citizens of his city. The Kings of Freeside also became good allies with the NCR, as long as they promised to help deal with any criminals within the city.

The time of peace would not last long, though. Rumors spread that the NCR was hiding something, and it had to deal with a recon team sent north several days after Caesar retreated to Flagstaff. The team was to supposedly travel more north than any team had traveled before, even beyond Arroyo. They were supposed to look for any signs of civilization, whether it be small settlements or sprawling cities. When the team never returned from their expedition, General Oliver dismissed the mission as a failure, and that the lives lost would be remembered. This did not go well with the people of New Vegas, nor Michael Mays himself. Michael gained the support of several hundred citizens and demanded to know the real fate of the recon team.

The NCR finally revealed they did not know what happened to the team, or whether they were alive or dead. After much consideration, General Oliver assembled another recon team to travel north and search for any information about the lost team. This team was to travel on the same route as the previous team, but this time they would have to take cameras so that the NCR could have a visual on any abnormalities found. They were to also be given a very powerful radio, one that could contact New Vegas even in the far reaches of the former United States.

This seemed to please Michael Mays, yet the Courier still had demands for the NCR. He wanted to go himself. This caught General Oliver off guard, yet he had no choice but to accept Mays demand. Michael was the reason the NCR had pushed the Legion out of Vegas, anyway. Even after the NCR pledged to find the lost team, Michael still distrusts their true motives behind the operation. Yet the thought of a civilization far north, secluded from the rest of the world, excited Michael. He realized he had to trust the NCR if he was to have any chance of exploring these areas far north.

These areas could be desolate, bleak, filled with mutated animals and crazed men wanting to kill everyone they came across. Or these areas could hold peace, happiness. The north could be a place where humans could live without fear, anger, or hatred. The north could change everything. Now, Michael had the oppurtunity to explore this unknown land.

But what does this unknown land hold? There is only one way to figure out...
